Is it smart to study for two sections at once?

I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere on the site (by Jeff’s videos or podcasts) – I just don’t really have the time to sift through everything to find it.

I just found out I didn’t pass REG but had started to study for FAR, which would have been my last section. My first score expires in April 2013, so you may see my panic about getting all the tests done in time, while allowing time to retake if necessary. The plan was to pass REG the first time (obviously) and take FAR in January and still have time to retake it either in Feb or beginning of April. I still want to take FAR in late Jan or early Feb and retake REG in Jan. I was really close to passing, so I kind of feel like I can study a little bit every day for Reg but also study for FAR so I can take them close together. Is this a bad idea? Has anyone been successful with something like this?

    AZ
    AUD - 10/20/2011 - 77
    BEC - 7/28/2012 - 79
    FAR - 4/6/2013 - 79
    REG - 4/18/2013 - 75 (3rd time's a charm!)

I know people who have been successful in doing this, but it really depends on how much time and focus you have.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!

Well, obviously it depends on a ton of different factors. Are you working? Full time, part time? You are just adding more to what you already have on your plate, so personally I would not recommend doing two simultaneously unless you have that kind of commitment and time on your hands. Also, if you were to fail FAR in January you couldn't retake it in February anyway. But, overall, like has been said on here many times, you need to almost restudy like you are taking it for the first time, not like you are studying just to try and make up a few points. There's no point in burning yourself out with both if it is not going to help you get done with one of them.

i personally wouldn't recommend studying and taking two at the same time– unless you really have the time, commitment, dedication, and really believe you can achieve it given your circumstances–

how are are you into studying for FAR? if you're not that far– i would say to stop and start restudying for reg and schedule FAR for another time. That way all your reg information is still fresh.

FAR to most people is the hardest exam so i think it would be best to just focus on that alone as it takes up A LOT of time, energy, and brain power to study for.

    good luck!

    Thanks everyone for your aqdvice.

I do work full time and have a family, so time is scarce.

And I am not that far into studying for FAR. Just about a chapter in. So I think I will stick with jumping back into REG and save FAR for Feb or April.

Thanks again for the helpful insight. 🙂
