Is FAR the hardest?

I’m only on F2, and I’m having such hard time. I thought REG was hard, but now that I think about it, REG is a piece of cake compared to FAR (in my opinion). I took REG three times, mainly b/c I skipped chapters/barely studied the first two times..but once I did really studied, I enjoyed it and it actually made sense to me.

FAR just seems like bunch of memorization without making much sense. Is this normal? Will I be able to pass?

I have FAR and BEC to go, and I’m way more nervous/depressed now than I was ever before.

I don’t mean to complain, but I’m really losing hope…

To be successful with FAR, you need to understand the concepts. Memorizing will get you no where. If you understand the journal entries and understand how one financial statement interacts with the next, you'll be fine. If you simply memorize, you will get eaten alive.

@Mini is correct. FAR has been the most challenging for me. Just keep in mind that most, if not all calculation-based problems can be solved via a T-account or journal entry. Obviously some concepts get a lot more complicated than that… but just make sure you are 100% with DRs and CRs.

I guess memorization is a wrong word. But I think, REG just made sense to me and I didn't feel like I was memorizing (besides few tax rules and b-law).

Anyways, as I get further along in FAR, I'm starting to understand it a lot more. I have just been away from debit/credit for so long, so it's taking bit longer to understand. However, I think with enough repetition, this may be doable. I might take longer than an average person, but this is possible, right? lol.

    Just need encouragements…(:

Oh yeah for sure FAR was the hardest for me. Everyone already told you the key to passing, understanding it and not memorizing. I want to add one more item to that list…

Just take it one chapter at a time and make sure you actually know the material before you move on. Try to review the old material through note cards, notes, etc so the info stays somewhat fresh. My mistake which made my final review that much more stressful was not reviewing the old material. At first I didn't remember anything while I was reviewing, but of course as I worked through the homework again, things luckily came back to me.

Thank you! That's exactly what I'm doing.

Making bunch of notes and reviewing them & notecards before I go to bed. Redoing all the HW again for the 2nd time before moving to a next chapter.

    Thanks, guys!

I feel like FAR makes sense, and REG does not; however I am comfortable with the basics for gaap accounting. But FAR is hard because of the sheer amount of information. I really hate leases.

    @misanthrope

i feel the exact opposite… reg made more sense to me than far.

the problem with far is that there are like 10000000 different topics that really dont relate to one another… so its just hard to get it all in your head.

    BEC: Done
    REG: Done
    AUD: Done
    FAR: Done

    I'M DONE!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For some reason, REG made sense….FAR doesn't.

But as I'm finishing up F2, I'm starting to understand it bit better. Like one of the earlier poster pointed out, understanding J/E is vital. The more I'm understanding it, the more questions I answer correct.

Alas, I'm only on F2…I know challenging stuff is coming which'll make F2 look like piece of cake. Lol

@jokami – I haven't taken REG yet, but after going through the BEC lectures once, I'm wishing I was just taking FAR again. I hate BEC!! I honestly cannot understand how more people don't struggle with it. I'm pretty sure that section's going to be my beast. I don't understand any of the Finance stuff!

I wanted to give up when I got to F2, just because of how much information was presented in that lecture! I think once you make it past F2 it gets better… and it's true, really understanding the material is what's going to get you that passing score. Are you using Becker? If you are, make sure you are doing progress tests pretty frequently, just because there is so much information that it's easy to forget it as you go through the lectures. I tried doing one every 2 chapters, increasing the number of MC every time. This will help you retain the information better too, and make your final review easier. Make sure you're also dedicating some time to read the differences between IFRS and GAAP- Becker merely skims over these areas. Good luck! It's a beast but you can do it!

@apbandj, you and @jokami are weird. How can you both possibly like FAR? Lol jk. I haven't taken BEC yet, so I can't compare to to it. However, REG was better…but now I'm nervous about BEC, too. Thanks! haha jk.

@cpanixtey: Thank you so much for saying that. That makes me feel better. I'll finish F2 either tonight or by tomm morning and hoping to do review F1 & F2 again. I'm glad to hear that it will get better…there's hope!!!

And yes, I'm using Becker! I will buy Becker final review and have Wiley test bank.

    Thanks:!)

I just took FAR in February. All good advice so far. Study IFRS big time. It CAN be done!

REG was the hardest for me (tax), but FAR was the second hardest. The good thing is that you are using Becker and they really do a great job covering exam topics in much greater detail than the actual test. Just keep reviewing and you will do fine.

They are all hard, people!!! The thing with FAR was the sheer amount of info to cover. It's important to take quizzes over the previously reviewed chapters as you go to try to keep things relatively fresh. Another thing that helped me = not every single topic can be tested, so don't stress. I sucked at a couple sections and got lucky enough that they weren't even on my exam. Just do your best and keep moving onward!

    FAR - 79 (2x)
    AUD - 81 (expired), 77!
    REG - 74! omg (3x) 87!!!!!!! I'm done! OMG!
    BEC - 81 (4x)
