Is 3.5 months enough time to pass FAR?

    Hello!

I’m preparing to study for FAR and I honestly think I will need exactly 3.5 months to study for it. This is my first attempt at FAR. It’s been 4 years since I graduated from college. I don’t remember my intermediate accounting courses.. I think it’s going to take time to relearn old material and of course learn new material. My only concern is that I’m afraid I won’t be able to retain the early material by the 3rd month.

Did anyone take over 3 months to prepare for FAR? What tips helped you pass?

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

I studied for FAR in 8 weeks. It depends on how many hours per week you can fit in, but 3.5 months seems like overkill to me.

use becker.. the test is all short term memory. I have had success by taking 2 exams during each testing period. 6-8 weeks per test.. 12.5 weeks is too long.

Yes, I took 4 months to study FAR. The main reason was the one you stated – I have been out of school for over 10 years so had to relearn a lot of basic Intermediate Accounting concepts and learn some new ones, too. Other people have commented on here that 4 months was overkill, but I honestly needed that much time and I still didn't feel 100% prepared on exam day. I also have 2 kids, so by allowing myself so much time it didn't matter if I skipped a day of studying here and there to do stuff with them.

I used both Yaeger HomeStudy and Yaeger CRAM. Here was my strategy…

Watch all 51 hours of lectures of the HomeStudy

Watch CRAM for Module 1 and do related MCQ's, Watch CRAM for Module 2 and do related MCQ's etc.

I did a 4 day final review which consisted of watching all the CRAM lectures and studying journal entries and formulas.

Most people just use the CRAM during their final review, but it helped me to watch it before doing MCQ's. Trying to recall info from a lecture I had seen 50 hours of lectures previously was next to impossible.

    Good luck!

I can be familiar with all the material in the 200 hours, but for reasons of age, attention span, life demands, it takes me almost as much longer to ‘know' the material. So I am over the top more hours than most and that is ok.

It really depends. Just take the time you need. Don't let others pressure you…

I gave myself 3 months to study FAR. It was the first exam I scheduled, so I didn't know what to expect. In hindsight, I needed the entire 3 months to even get into the zone (learning how to take notes, how to organize the material, etc.) of studying for the CPA. In this process, I discovered that I'm not a very efficient learner, lol.

But because it was 3 months, I forgot a lot of what I learned in the beginning and made a 73. If you're giving yourself that much time, you should definitely nail the material. Just make sure you keep reviewing old material as you learn new topics.
