    Hey everybody,

I had an interview scheduled in the morning today at 9:30 am, but had to cancel it due to taking my grandma to the hospital. She had a stroke a few weeks ago and while my aunt/parents are at work, I have the responsibility to check up on her blood pressure and take her to the hospital if anything goes bad. Unfortunately, today was one of those days where it was way too high.

When I told the interviewer on the phone at 8:30 in the morning to reschedule the interview, she told me to give me my phone number and she would call me back. Do you guys think she will even call back? I was hoping to reschedule it as I was on the phone with her.

Should I give her a call after a few days if she does not call me?

    Any help is appreciated.

First I'm really sorry about your grandmother, I know how hard it can be to take on some of the burden.

When you called to reschedule did you explain the situation? If you don't hear from them in a few days you could send an email and just say you're following up to reschedule the interview. You could also call, and follow-up, I just prefer email. If you do reschedule make sure someone else can care for your grandmother that day, you don't won't to ask to reschedule again.

We had a candidate at my job who rescheduled once for a similar situation. She tried to reschedule a second time and my boss wouldn't even see her after that. Once is understandable twice is a bad sign.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but as an interviewer they are thinking if I hire this person what happens when her grandmother needs to go to the hospital again, is she always going to be calling out? Are you working on another form of care for her? If it comes up and it might make sure you have a good response something along the lines of – with me not currently working I have agreed to help, however when I take on this position we have arranged care for my grandmother so it doesn't interfere with my success here. It is great you can help out now but you will need to find additional support when you start working full-time.

Good luck, and if this doesn't work out it wasn't meant to be and there is a better job for you right around the corner.

    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

Thanks for the help. If I do get a 2nd interview, then I would DEF have someone else look over my grandma. Unfortunately, Monday I was the only one available.

It is kind of hard….I can see your point, but from the employer side I would not consider calling you for another interview. Attendance is the number one factor during the interview and within the first few months of employment.

Anyway, I hope you can get a second chance, and if not it was not meant to be, you will find something better soon.

    Done 😉
