In need of timing advice (Becker)

Hello! I’ve started studying for FAR a few days ago and want to get a better idea of how Becker is structured for some of the chapters. I’ve completed BEC (5 weeks) and REG (4 weeks). I’m hoping to complete FAR in roughly 6 weeks. I attempted AUD with 3 weeks, but due to life emergencies I wasn’t prepared and made a 67. I feel like I have a good grasp on allocating time and staying dedicated to studying while maintaining a good average in my masters of accounting program. In BEC, REG, and AUD I was averaging 2-3 chapters a week to leave 1.5 weeks for review.

So here is my concern. I hit F2 and have realized it’s taking me significantly more time to get through. I had a similar experience while studying one chapter for BEC, but I made up for lost time. I was wondering if anyone can shine some light on the density of some of the chapters ahead of me. I want to have an idea of setting benchmark goals to make sure a chapter that will take more time than usual will not surprise me. I also want to know so I can plan to study for upcoming exams in my masters program accordingly. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Everyone learns at different speeds of course, but it took me a full 8 weeks of studying 25-30 hours a week to tackle FAR. (I wasn't working at the time). It just isn't like any of the other sections – there is truth behind people calling it ‘the beast'.

Even if you feel comfortable with F1-F6, when you hit the NFP and Gov't sections, you will probably slow down and need to devote at least a week to each of these by themselves (unless you have experience in them).

    Good luck!

I'm only on chapter 6. So far, I thought chapters 1 & 4 were pretty easy, 2 & 3 were medium, 5 sucked and 6 is in between medium and sucking. Chapters 5 & 6 were bad for me because I haven't looked at bonds since college, I don't ever remember learning pensions and my experience with leases only included operating leases. I think it really depends on your background. In general, I think chapters 1 & 4 are a gift. They shouldn't give you any problems.

Thanks a lot for the input. I'll try to keep all of this in mind. I'm taking a Governmental & NFP class right now, so I think it good that it comes up later in the study material.
