Please help me. I am using Becker reviews but the homework is so tough. When I get a question wrong, I would try to figure it out by going through the answer key and referring back to the lectures. I still have problem trying to figure it out and I have no idea who to ask for help so I can have a better understanding of the problem. I find myself looking at the problem for minutes and I still cannot figure it out. Anyone have any advice that would help me out. Is this a sign that I should just give up and there is no way I can understand the materials? =(

This seems like a lack of conceptual understanding. I review Becker notes by reading them once, typing them out, then watching the lectures and pausing and re-explaining the concepts to myself. I practice any journal entries (not just memorizing their form but understanding WHY they are recorded in such a way). Only after I am thoroughly convinced I can answer the question conceptually, I tackle the problems. Try that approach. My experience has shown me that people over-emphasize MCQs, and they expect to do all their learning from repeating problems over and over.

This approach takes a lot of time, but I am determined to pass this once and then be done with it.

    E - 90 - 11/17/2012

Under NO circumstances do you give up. Just ask JoMarie or Keeptrying. Or me. I too am using Becker. The sheer volume of material is overwhelming and intimidating. When working MC's I sometimes look over at that little clock and find that I am up to mega minutes in trying to figure out a problem. I have quit paying attention to that clock and only on grasping the concept no matter how long it takes. You just have to keep doing the MC”s over and over, read, read and more read, SIMS again and again. Repetition is the key. You WILL get the concepts. Are you using any type of audio material? If not, I highly recommend that you do so. The NINJA audio is wonderful!! Or buy you a small recorder and make your own audio notes. That way you can study anywhere!

    Hope this helps!

There is just no easy way around this. Study till your eyes are burning out of your head. Study till you feel like beating your head against the wall. Just do it. I started my third round of reading the Beckers material last week and it finally feels like I'm starting to remember things. Things are pulling together and starting to make sense. The first time it's a blur. Way too much to comprehend. The second time it feels like you're stupid and will never remember any of it – let alone pass. Third time – I'm starting to get it!!! You can do this. It only matters how bad you want it.

Have you passed or attempted any of the sections?

I don't agree with the above posters 100%. I'm not saying throw in the towel but if what you're doing isn't working at all try something else. Dont do a ton of questions if you dont understand any of the material. Maybe start over with “Jeff's method” IF you think that will make a difference and will work for you.

I don't think this test is completely out of anyone's reach but I do think it's ok to reconsider if it's going to take more effort than you want to put in.

yeah i agree….Doing multiple questions or any other q helps a lot. Sometimes i read the materials and watch the video 2 or 3 times but i understand nothing but when i do multiple questions, i seem to get the concept better, it helped me to pass 3 sections. I am still in the same position like you with FAR but i know after few weeks i will be fine…….just mix it up, don't just read or watch lectures…….so try it out.

I really struggled with FAR. So when I did the questions in Becker, I would watch the lecture for just one section of say, Chapter 5. Then I would re-read the chapter only reading the materials that they told me to highlight. Then I would hit the questions. If I didn't know the answer, I would look it up in the book like I was doing homework. If I still couldn't find the answer, I would click an answer in Becker. <<<—-clicking the answer in Becker was my last resort though.

It didn't help me to just go through MC questions without really understanding the material.

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)
