I'm lost on FAR

I keep switching back and forth between Becker and Ninja MCQ. Scoring in the 60s on Ninja and can’t seem to hold onto any confidence whatsoever. I’m really frustrated with this exam. I’m taking FAR in a month, but I feel like I’m going to just fail again. Don’t feel like I’m learning the material by just doing MCQ and SIMs anymore. Help!

If you have the Becker book and not just the MCQ I would say that you should, if you have the time, watch the lecture and make an outline as you go.

When I was doing my final review for FAR I would outline each section and do the MCQ for that part before moving on. This is obviously VERY time consuming, I work a FT job and a large firm so I scheduled a few days of PTO before the test. In my experience (I've done it for FAR, AUD, and BEC) it takes about double the length of time as the video lecture is to actually write a good outline, and then the MCQs take awhile as well.

For me, putting pen to paper and helps tremendously with recall and understanding. This is obviously not how everyone learns best but it is worth giving a try.

But overall if you know how you learn best (listening, reading, writing, etc.) just beat that method to death.

    GOOD LUCK, YOU WILL PASS!!!

I am trying to get through the Becker book by taking notes and doing the MCQ. This is a retake for me as well. After I get through the book (hopefully by the end of the week, but probably not) I will be purchasing the Ninja MCQ and I have Ninja flash cards. I feel like Becker doesn't do a great job on FAR, but I don't think it is their fault … it is just too much material. I have sat for 6 exams and I cannot take anymore of Gearty's voice … I am over the lectures! I had some really obscure topics the first time I took FAR, which has made me more nervous about taking it this time. I really hate FAR!

If you don't already have them I would definitely get the ninja notes. Unless you are good about taking notes AND listening. I seem to be really bad at that and end up not actually retaining either version, so I either need to listen or write. But whether it's your own notes or Ninja's, I found rewriting them to be extremely helpful. When I hit a topic in the notes that didn't immediately register in my brain I would go watch my Roger lectures. If I was still confused after that I would get into the Roger/Wiley text and work through that until it made sense. I was more concerned with making sure I actually understood the topic and less about memorizing things. MCQ are great practice, but that by itself would not have gotten me to a place where I could apply the concepts to different questions/facts.

@MaLoTu sorry about the random “HiYa!” I accidentally clicked on it and don't know how to take it back. So….I guess HiYa! 🙂

I agree. I took FAR on Nov 30th. So far passed BEC(80) and failed AUD(74). Took FAR on Monday and for sure fail. SIMS was very tough. It was very difficult for me to review the whole Becker 10 chapters. It was depressing. It took lot of time for the second review itself. I know I am going to fail. I bought Ninja FAR notes. I checked and it pretty much looks great. I will start studying again from next Wednesday and plan to take in mid Jan. But still Ninja FAR notes seems to be worth for the money. I should have bought it before. I bought the BEC MCQ and it was good and helped.I will buy the AUD and REG notes later.

I'm going through the same thing, but with AUD. I bought Ninja MCQs and am not really scoring any higher than I was with just Becker, hovering around 70%…however, my plan is to re-read the whole Becker book and focus on Becker, but use Ninja as a supplement – mainly in the final review phase as source of new “progress tests” if you will, and also to use their practice exams.

That is pretty much what I did for FAR when I re-took it. I stuck with Becker only and re-read the entire book, you will be shocked at how much more information you pick up even on the areas you think you are strong. It is still important to do the MCQs and SIMs, but in my experience, since you already have a strong foundation of the material going into your re-take you can really make things click through reading everything all over again. Not necessarily watch all the lectures again, but really dive into the nitty gritty details of those areas you have “general knowledge”.

@allaboard – How would you incorporate rewriting notes with your MCQ?

My issue is that I only can get through two chapters a week. I just left off with Becker around Ch. 5 (Leases) and thinking I should just go back to it now. Sometimes I drive myself crazy lol. I also feel that rewriting notes could be beneficial (I did that for my REG pass), but since FAR has so much more material I feel like I would be wasting precious MCQ time.

I'm not trying to whine or rant. I have roughly four weeks until exam day and would really like a pass on FAR before busy season.

@broag – If there is a specific section/topic you want to work on, you can select that specific topic in the MCQ custom option and it will give you questions related to that topic.

As you rewrite the notes and hit a topic you don't feel comfortable with, create a custom MCQ session that only includes questions from that topic.

If you don't want to re-write all the notes (But its really not that bad. The ninja notes are 112 pages and the font is pretty big. It's not 112 pages FULL of tiny words. If you give yourself 7 days to re-write, it's 15 pages/day.), you could go directly to the topics you know you are struggling with and re-write those. Then create the custom MCQ session to really nail it down. This is what I did closer to exam day and it helped me sort through those weak areas.

That sounds like a pretty good plan. Once I get through Becker (for the third time now) I think I will implement that strat. Much appreciated.
