goodluck2everyoneMemberThis cpa exam is starting to get to me guys
After failing two exams in a row and not seeing a passing score since July 2011, I’m in a big rut. I took audit a few days ago and though I did better than the first time, I’m dreading the day when I look at my score and see a 66 or something. I can just picture this happening and imagine how hard it will be.
I know a lot of people fail more than once before they pass but how do you cope with it? It’s beginning to wear me down in a bad way

mla1169ParticipantGoodluck, think of the Eleanor Roosevelt quote (my FAVORITE) ” A woman is like a teabag, you will never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water”. Now I think I remember you are a guy, but the quote is still relevant. You are in hot water, deep. This is probably the biggest test of your strength and character and you will rise above and be the person on this forum that people look up to for tenacity.

I think you have some really good posts here. I hope you can see that alot of us go through what you are feeling. I think I took 4 exams before i got my first pass. I felt like I would never get over the hump. All of my scores were in the 70 range, so I felt like I was right there, so it made me question whether I could do it or not. I think I remember emailing Jeff and asking him what I didn't have the confidence to say on the forum. He was great in that he spent time going over how I could study differently. That was when I started to incorporate other review programs. I never gave it any thought before, I had Becker, because that was what the firm I was working at used. I know alot of people use it successfully, I did for BEC, but for FAR, I used Yaeger which was great. Since that time I used Roger and love him. The main thing I am saying is that EACH exam is different, perhaps a different approach is necessary, you just have to be able to identify what is needed/not so much for each one. This exam is a test of strength as much a test on accounting. You have to dig deep and then some.
BTW, for me, I let myself wallow a bit, because then the only direction to go is UP. I don't know what I would do without Chocolate!!!! π
Keep the faith!

AnonymousInactiveI failed 2 exams in one window (one with 74) and then passed both of them in the next window.
The trick is to remain positive! You WILL PASS them next time, for sure, if you really want to and put in enough work!
It usually takes me one day to recover from the disappointment and then I'm back with vengeance π
As Yankee said, I couldn't have gotten this far without a little bit (or more!) of Chocolate Happiness π

OnMyWayToCPAMemberJust wanna say that I know how you feel. Since passing BEC on my first try in August 2011, I've taken 3 exams and failed all three.
I did just as yankee did and allowed myself to be sad about it for a couple days (a couple of theraputic shopping, comfort-food eating days) and then got back up on the horse.
The key is that once you're done wallowing, you don't go back. Just keep moving forward with a positive outlook and a renewed determination and know that YOU CAN AND WILL PASS THIS EXAM !
I'm rooting for you !!!

MyLifeisCPAMember@ Goodluck – as you can see there are tons of people that have been/are in your shows. I passed BEC in September 2011 and have not passed one since. So I am still at the 1 credit mark. I took AUD/REG in October/November failed both with scores in the 70's. That hit me hard! I at least wanted to get credit for one of them. So I took a little bit of time during December to clear my head and be sad. I had to realize that no matter how many time I fail, I am going to keep going b/c this is something that I want no matter how hard it gets. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! When I start to feel down, I will take a day off and that tends to help me!
BEC-Passed
AUD-Passed
REG-Passed
FAR-Passed (I AM DONE!!! THANK U LORD!!!!)

I was feeling the exact same way yesterday and the good people in this forum helped me overcome it. We are all in the same boat. Trust me, I am the one always saying: “it is not the first time I flunk a test.” But I don't know why yesterday I was overwhelmed with this process and almost wanted to quit…
I don't know if you've been reading my thread… But I am waiting for my failed BEC score to solicit again and take it in April 2. (There is a BEC movement going on). I know I failed and I haven't received the grade yet!!!!
They way I look at it.. It is something that we just have to do; deal with it, learn and help everyone who are in this same process.
Don't give up… The fruit of our labor will be rewarded. I really hope you feel better…

nolifecpaParticipanti failed 12 exams before passing my first (AUD). afterwards, took and passed BEC in july 2011 and since then have failed REG for the 5th time, i understand your frustration.
the very first step you have to take before you move forward is to believe in yourself and know you can do it. the next step is to NEVER GIVE UP!!! the only way to fail this exam is to quit
i agree with yankeeaccountant, if you haven't already done so, switch up the material. when you switch it gives you a different point of view on the different topics, it may also change your method of studying. and most importantly, it gives you new motivation. when i switch from becker to yaeger i was so eager to find out if the new review would work
keep moving forward no matter how slowly, we may have lost the battle but we will win the war!!!

Kayla86MemberI can't really add a ton to what has already been said but just so you know there is one more person who feels the exact same way!
I remember I studied SO hard for my first exam since I had no idea what to expect. I remember going into AUD thinking I knew the material really well and when I finished the exam I felt super confident that I passed. Only to find out I got a 72. I was so bummed because I thought after all that work and feeling so confident that if I couldn't pass, how would I ever pass.
I passed AUD on my second try and REG both in July 2010. Then I was burned out and didn't take BEC until November 2010, failed, took it again feeling confident once again that I really knew the material. I was fairly sick the morning of my 2nd attempt at BEC but I still felt like I would rock it…nope, got a 74. That really hit me in the gut. At that point I decided to wait until after my June wedding to really focus on studying again. Finally passed again when I took the exam in July 2011. So it took me a whole year to receive a passing score again. It's hard to build confidence when you fail a couple of times but you just have to remind yourself that you've passed one of the exams before and you can do it again!
AUD - 73, 82 7/2010
REG - 79 7/2010
BEC - 72, 74, 78 7/2011
FAR - 66, 83 1/2012 - AND I'M DONE! Best feeling ever.MN Licensed CPA as of 5/18/12!
