Guys, please help with this one, it has been a week that I could not even concentrate in any chapter. I just lost all my motivation to study, I keep trying to remind myself of how my career would be if I get the CPA, but still can NOT study.

    Is that normal thing!

It's normal to lose motivation occasionally, but you need to keep reminding yourself of why you want to do this. I know Jeff says to literally write down the reasons you want to pass the exam on a piece of paper and use it to remotivate yourself.

When all else fails, check out the motivational video thread:

I agree that it's normal to feel worn out. Just wait until your 6 months into this, or a year… or SEVERAL years into it, like some of our friends on here that we root for so much. Take their examples and use that as inspiration.

But to lose sight of your motivation is probably because you're allowing yourself to be distracted with other things. You asked if that was normal… my response is that it IS normal to feel tempted to surrender our motivation (it doesn't just get up and leave… we lose it by allowing other distractions to replace it). But if you want to pass this exam, you have to overcome that temptation, and take hold of your motivation with a deathgrip and don't let it go until you're done.

Someone on A71 once said this, “you know what's worse than studying for FAR?— RESTUDYING for FAR”… This is only a temporary sacrifice… commit to putting yourself in the best position possible to pass and never have to take this exam again.

I agree with what everyone says. If you think about the scope of this test. This test is like a life test. When you pass, you leave behind a lot of doubt. If all else fails, it helps to have artificial enthusiasm. You know saying things like “I love preparing cash flow statements and I can't wait to do this in real life.” Or . . . I can't wait to unwind the day with the codification. ” or “Omg, is that a bond amortization schedule, how exciting!!”

It could be, you need a day off too.

Dude am I ever with you.

Between work, tax season and my bumbling block of keystone clients, and my Mom's passing last week…I have no ambition. I really just want to go play with the family and kids and say screw this test. The wind is completely out of my sails.

I was plugging along just fine and enjoying the feeling of passing these exams, it is a rush to see that passing score. But then things kind of pinpointed what's important and suddenly this test wasn't as important.

Having said that, I'm back on the study wagon just not as happy about it as previous times.

    Hi Hili,

Are you making excuses why you lost your motivation? No excuses allowed. My husband passed away April 13. He stood in front of me and said baby I do not feel well and drop dead in front of me. I think is worse thing that can happen to anyone. I feel very bad. I would not let that stop me studying for these exams and passed them. I wanted to sit for FAR on April 30 and postponed for July 04 on his birthday. I will not make any excuses to avoid studying. I will sit for the test, unless the Lord decided otherwise.

My condolences CPAPending and Keeptrying congratulations a job well deserve

It's funny because more money/better job doesn't really matter in the end. It's just more stuff, different environments. Studying and taking tests; it's just something to do. But becoming a cpa doesn't really matter in the scheme of things.

    #340581

@ Aaron I disagree. For me, it will give me the option to work for myself and start my own CPA firm. I think that matters a great deal in the end.
