Just curious to know, especially to those who have passed the sections their first try, were you a good student at school particularly in your Accounting courses? I ask this because I’ve had really good grades when I took the required Accounting courses, but feel that I did not learn “enough”. I’ve come to realize this when I started my CPA review and it’s like I’m learning new things each time I read my Becker materials.

@jeff $111/sq ft!! Lol. So crazy. Things out here are about $425 – $1,000 per sq ft depending on where you buy. How long have you had it on the market? Does real estate move fast at that price?

@keeptrying – LOL. There are a lot of affordable places in California. Just not close to the beach. 😉

mini – 1 years worth of mortgage payments where you live would buy my house, my car, my husbands truck and pay off my credit card debt! But my house is paid for so I don't have a mortgage, thank you Dave Ramsey!

I put it on the market a few weeks ago … I backdoored my way into the MLS for $300 🙂

I've had it shown several times…naturally people have to sell their house first.

Yeah Becker cost me about 3 mortgage payments. This same house (yard included) in a desirable area of the country would cost about 3x what we paid for it, no doubt.

I was top of my class in high school, spoke at graduation, president of national honor society. Then in college, I didn't make anything less than an A until intermediate accounting my junior year. Earned my degree plus the extra hours for the exam within 4 years so that it would be covered by my scholarship. That's 21 hours a semester, working part-time, too. Finished with a 3.8.

…now can you envision someone with my track record failing as many times as I have? This exam has been more of a strain on my emotions than anything else. I never thought it would take me this long. I've never had to try this hard before! I've had to learn to manage my stress and accept my failing scores, keep moving forward. It's been tough! My poor husband 😉

Veronica – You have not failed! You just have scores less than 75. The only way to fail is to quit and you are way to close to do that now! Good Luck!

Well I was more concerned about boys in high school and got a 3.2. I got a 3.9 on my associate's while I got my priorities straight, a 3.7 in my bachelor's, and a 3.9 again on my MAcc. I get really anxious in big tests, but for me it seems like I take it once, get it out of my system, take it again and I'm okay. Happened for the GMAT and BEC. Really hope I don't have to do repeats on the rest.

On the comments about the flags here…I saw some people a while ago were arguing whether the flags seemed to make a difference in borderline scores. So I didn't flag any this last time. I either answered it or didn't mark it until I knew I shouldn't look at it again. I passed. Maybe something to that…dunno.

Flags have nothing, zip, zero, nada, no impact on your score whatsoever.

Mini is right. I have flagged a bunch on exams that I passed as well as exams I didn't pass. It doesn't mean anything except that you aren't confident in your answer, or at least that is what it means for me.

Through high school up to obtaining a master's equivalent I was an honor student. (Prior to that, I did not understand nor speak English well, so I was often a C or B student.) When I went back to college to fulfill accounting requirements, prerequisite of the CPA exam, I maintained a 4.0.

I grew up on a small island and attended a school that did not have the facilities children who grew up in America did. I attended the only university available (did not have the means to do otherwise.), probably why I did well. After obtaining a master's equivalent I moved to the states where the nearest college I was accepted to was an hour away. I did not want to be that far away from my young children, and with gas prices skyrocketing at the time, I enrolled in an online program. I was very sceptical at first, but later found that I had learned more than I ever did in a traditional classroom environment; this was probably so because I basically taught myself.

I never considered myself smart but I work hard, study hard, and do my best given the situation. (God blessed me with this nature.) CPA candidates I admire most and provide me with some motivation are those that have the will to succeed despite repeated attempts.

@Kricket Logically on multiple choice only parts, yes. Just the thought that where the writing section is present on BEC, if there's any other subjective factors that make a difference in the grading these…it just makes you wonder how much information from your individual test that the graders see.

Not to mention that this is really just the superstitious side of me who wants to repeat my same actions as the day I passed and wear the same clothes, etc. (I'll draw the line at refusing to wash them, however 😛 ).

I took BEC before it all changed. So I didn't have a written portion. I'm superstitious too! I don't however own any red underwear!

Maverick, English is not your first language? You certainly write better than most people whose only language is English!

Haha! No red undies, LOL. Thankfully I can't remember that detail! But I have this weird tradition that I'm starting…when I passed BEC and when I got a really high score on the GMAT I went out of town and stayed at hotels the night before the exam (because of work scheduling I was only able to get appointments that worked out of town). Well, now I see not worrying about spending time with my fiance or washing dishes among other stuff that's being neglected helps me to focus. This has now set a really expensive precedent. I'm really trying to ignore my illogical ideas of taking little CPA exam vacations.
