I don’t know about you guys but my college courses were not that great for this subject and I am just now learning a lot of this. I understand the VERY basics but am spinning my wheels with a lot fo the complex govt concepts… how well did you all know the govt/nfp portion and is it something that you had to spend a lot fo time studying?

    10/13/13 - FAR *PASSED* 76
    12/01/13 - AUD *PASSED* 84
    01/09/14 - BEC *PASSED* 84

I'd like to hear what others have to say on this too. My college courses didn't even touch on governmental and NFP accounting. I've been delving into governmental this week (kind of depressing considering the shutdown, lol) and I'm going to tackle NFP tomorrow. But I have no idea if I'm focusing on the right stuff or not.

    REG - 85
    AUD - 99
    FAR - 89 - w/ NINJA Audio and Blitz
    BEC - 91

Using Wiley - books and test bank - 6 months - all 4 first time

Yea i didn't learn any of this. I am just trying to get down the basics. That's all we can do at this point. My school did have a govt/nfp 3 unit elective class, but I decided to take IFRS vs GAAP instead.

    BEC - 84, 4/6/13
    AUD - 77, 5/28/13
    REG - 83, 4/12/14
    FAR - 83, 10/3/13

    Ethics - 90% 4/24/13

    150 unit education requirement met!
    Work experience met!

I would master the material, simply cause NFP & Govt are about 10-15% and after every 3rd or 4th question you will see a NFP or Govt.

My strategy was to master this section, so that i could score the maximum on this small section. So if i have to do any errors i rather do it on leases, bonds or some else. But these are guaranteed points, if you get your head down and study them.

It also worked for me as time saving strategy, i used to do NFP & govt within 30 seconds. Its either you know it or you dont. Helped me put more time in longer and difficult questions.

I worked every single question on Wiley text book, Wiley test bank. Gained a strong understanding of every one of them. And i think that was good enough for my test. I score stronger on both NFP and Gov Acc parts.

Those are easy points to get on your exam.

    FAR 85
    AUD 83
    BEC 76
    REG 90

It's two chapters of Becker. It's substantial. I took the class in college, but if you didn't, I'd study it a few times.

    B - 81 (8/31/13) first attempt!
    A - 80 (2/3/14) first attempt!
    R - 89 (7/31/13) first attempt!
    F - 86 (7/2/13) first attempt!
    Licensed CPA: 12/31/14

    Becker rocks!

I took Gov/NFP as an elective course, but we focused more on reading the financials and learning their motives and objectives. It was an interesting class, but not very helpful for the actual accounting.

Still, I would say I'm getting a pretty decent benefit from it. I'm doing the Becker sections now, and at least I'm comfortable with most of the terminology. I'm struggling with the accounting, though! I intend to study hard for this section, because it seems like it could really make a lot of sense and be easy points if I can figure it out. Pensions on the other hand – I got no chance to figure it out 100%!

Govt/NFP accounting was crucial for my test at least.. I had a sim on NFP and had a bunch of MCQ's.

I had no prior knowledge of these topics. Do a lot of MCQ's and try to understand the flow between the journal entries.
