I get so confused on whether or not to enter numbers as negatives on SIMS. While doing my final review for FAR, I had a SIM ask me to enter values as they would appear on the statement of retained earnings, and I got all of them wrong because I entered them all as negatives (They were dividend and PPA transactions that would appear as negative numbers in a statement of RE). Will a SIM always clearly tell you if you if you need to enter negative numbers where appropriate?

Yes. The instructions on a SIM are usually detailed enough to tell you how to enter the numbers.

Thank you! So if I don't see specific instructions telling me to enter negative numbers, I should always go positive? Sometimes I feel like Becker is inconsistent so I get confused…

That could just be in my head though! Trying to blame Becker to make myself feel better haha.

If you don't see specific instructions, I think you will be able to infer what to do from how the problem is setup. For example, something will seem off or not balance. Hope that helps.
