How soon after I submit my application?

First time poster, but I’ve been following this site for awhile!

I plan on sitting for FAR and BEC exam in the last section of the year (FAR beginning of Oct, BEC end of Nov). I submitted my application this week, and I know that it will be about 4-6 weeks to get my NTS. My question is when should I actually purchase the becker (Self-study)? I was going to do it this week as well and just start studying when I got it about a week or two from now. That would put me on track for a 6 week studying period for FAR and about 5 weeks for BEC, well within what I had been planning.

So long story short, should I put off purchasing Becker until I know my application has been accepted?

Thanks for the help, and good luck to those taking the exam now!

@Quack: I would order and get started now (unless you think there'll be a problem with your application? You have all your hours? Submitted required info?) I actually studied about 8 weeks for FAR. Of course, I have been out of college for 10 years so that makes a little difference. Hope it goes well for you!

@Quack – I agree with ChaFayCPA the more time you have with those materials the better off you are. Good luck!

Thanks for the input guys, I'll be putting in my order this week and thankfully take advantage of the 0% financing while it still lasts 🙂

I figured i would post this and give you some insight to my situation which also might help.

I submitted my application in May and my transcripts got there on June 16…. i still don't have my NTS. Depending on what Becker program you are doing this might affect whether you want to buy it already. I did the Becker online class. What happens is your class has deadlines my class started June 7 and so I followed the program. I finished Audit lectures and homework about 4 weeks ago and the class gives you about 2 weeks off (to take the test) and then starts with the next section. To get the Becker promise you have to finish the lectures and hw by a certain date. I'm not even sure if I will be able to sit for Audit in august …and my next section i have to be finished with by Sept 7. I basically am going to loose that section of Becker. Also Becker only lasts for a certain amount of time. Starting in June mine lasts until Feb. Therefore if I don' finish all sections by then I have to start re-buying Becker sections. It's something to think about. I wish i had waited to start Becker so that i was on track with the class and had test dates already scheduled to ensure that i didn't loose sections for the Becker promise and/or so that i dont run out of my license before i actually finish the exam because i never expected it to take this long to get my NTS and to be able to pick dates.

    @bentleygirl:

Did you call your state board?

@ TheQuackenbush: Before you buy the Becker materials, I would all the state board to see how long it will actually take to process your app. The “4-6 weeks” turned into almost 4 months for me! And everything was included and they had my transcripts. I called them just about everyday, and they had my transcripts in hand for about 3-1/2 of those months. But that was for FL. Other people have told me that they registered in GA and SD and it was less than a week. You just want to make sure you can test this year so you don't buy 2010 Becker when you may need all parts of 2011. And the software is good for 18 months, so not sure why someone mentioned something like 6 or 8 months.

    REG 79 (Becker); BEC 63 (Becker) 70 (Yaeger); AUD 66 (Becker; 11/30 - Becker); FAR 11/24 (Yaeger/Wiley)

LOL @ FLCPA – I'm in Florida too and it took me around 6 months. I think it's just our state 🙁 Although I like the way we do it where you apply for all the sections and then just order your NTS separately and they email it to you :). But the actual application process took forever!

I'm in NY, I submitted it, but I'll call just to get an idea of what the process time has been. Thanks

Haha, wow… 4 months?!?! 6 months?!?!?! say what!!! That's ridiculous. I live here in FL too but I'm glad I registered in Georgia. It's been 5 weeks since I applied, though. Still waiting…

Here's another question for anyone that could help out. I submitted my application for NY last week, this week the check sent was withdrawn from my account. When can I expect to receive an email, or letter about my jurisdiction number so that I can check on my application status?

Hey Quackenbush – It looks like I got mine after I emailed a designated NASBA contact who handled NY – I don't know how it works now b/c this was a few years ago, but there were a few contacts that handled names A thru M, N thru Z, and the easiest & quickest way to get questions answered was through email.

    I really can't pass again!

The Quackenbush – I see the chain – I was emailed by the designated NASBA contact, who introduced himself and stated that the State Education Department had received my application. I ended up emailing him for my individual jurisdiction ID later on.

    TheQuackenbush,

I registered in Georgia and never received an email/confirmation/receipt from NASBA. I had to call the CPA Exam Services center in Tennessee to get the jurisdiction number.

    Ok here's my problem.

I submitted my First time application on Oct-08-2010 with the hopes of taking AUD by end of November.

I have already ordered my study material and somewhat started studying towards it. If it takes 6 weeks to get the NTS I should be fine. But the more time it takes, the more risk i run on having to take it the next testing window. Which will be a waste on the money and time I put in. I live in Iowa and i have submitted transcripts and what not. hopefully it will reach me on time. Thinking about it makes me pretty stressful.

What is the Fastest someone has received a NTS? Would it take as much as 4-6 months as some members have posted? Or will it reach me in 4-6 weeks?
