I’ve heard a lot of people saying grinding out the MCQs, but I don’t see as much mentioning of the SIMs. I’m using Jeff’s study planner and even then there’s not really much on SIMs. I’m doing some of the SIMs from the Wiley test bank and I could answer most of the T/F questions, some journal entries, but some like doing all the elimination entries and consolidation for a Business Combination, I have no idea how I can do all that with the time pressure.

How much time do you usually put in the SIMs?

I used Becker to study for FAR and only did the TBS's once each for two reasons. First, I found them quite a bit easier than the MCQ's. Second, the TBS's are so specific that you don't gain as much from going over them again and again. However, I did carefully go through the answers to make sure I understood everything before moving on.

That being said, understanding journal entries is essential to both the MCQ's and TBS's, so spending time becoming familiar with them would be a good idea. Try coming up with the entries without looking at the book, then for every mistake you make, figure out why you did what you did, why that's wrong, and why the book is correct.

Also, I make sure that I have plenty of time for the TBS's during the exam so I can look up questions in the Authoritative Literature.

I just went through the Wiley sims once probably a couple days before the exam to just see some different question formats, that was about it.
