    Between the review programs and exam registrations and fees about $6,000. If I include the additional accounting courses to sit for the exam that would be almost $20,000 give or take. Gosh, I better get a job that will be well worth the ROI because looking at that number makes my stomach turn.

    My firm paid for Becker and to register for the exams. I did have to send my transcript to NASBA and that cost $7. :/

    cpa runner, good for you. That's great!

    Workinonit, for many of us, this is a very expensive journey…again, my stomach feels kind of weird when I think about how much it cost. My husband has been supportive but I don't think he is well aware of how much it has cost him…and he will never know.

    Currently at about $4k with review courses and exam fees. Will get $3k back upon passing from employer and bonus so I should be up $2-3k after taxes, assuming no bumps in the road.

    That's a good question…

    $ 120.00 – Wiley Books

    $ 345.35 – Application fee & FAR

    $ 642.85 – AUD/BEC/REG

    $ 260.35 – AUD Retake

    $1,368.55 – Total out-of-pocket cost

    4 – Vacation days used at work to sit for exams

    x $192.31 – Oppertunity cost of a day off.

    $769.24 – Day-off oppertunity cost

    171.50 – Hours spent studying

    x $24.04 – Oppertunity cost of an hour

    $4,122.86 – Studying oppertunity cost

    $4,892.10 – Total oppertunity cost

    $6,260.65 – Total Cost

    I thought about factoring in my cost of capital, but I don't feel like torturing myself right now…

    Because my husband and I both, we've spent way too much. We started the process in 2008. I had to pay for my Becker, but his was reimbursed by his firm (we did the live classes that time). My exam fees were reimbursed (though they were treated like normal and were taxed) and I can't remember if his were reimbursed or not. So we spent a lot of money in 2008. Neither one of us was successful on that go around, and we didn't pick it up again until this time last year. When we bought a full set of self-study Becker. I passed all four sections on the first try this time. He struggled a bit with AUD so we paid for that test a few times but now he has passed that and FAR (on his first try this time). So he has two more to pay for and hopefully that will be the last of our expenditures.

    My guess for all of that is about $10,000

    All 4 exams plus initial fee was around $900

    Review course around $1600

    So far $2500 and will have to take FAR again so $2750 or so. I refuse to fail anymore.

    Big 4 pays for it thankfully. I probably would have no chance of taking it otherwise, no way I could afford 5K+ in fees and study material.

    I laid out $5,000 to pass the exams and that is only in direct costs.

    Fortunately I got a $2500 salary increase when I received my license but that will be wiped out by the fiscal cliff.

    FAR (8/31/11)- 89
    BEC (11/22/11)- 88
    REG (4/10/12)- 91
    AUD (7/16/12)- 96

    Spent 3600 in 2010 for Becker 2010…went back to school to get the master's so license expired. Paid 1700 again in 2012 (half off as a returning student) along with 748 in NTS fees to the Gods of NASBA, as well as 100 application fee, 50 for re-examination fee, 400 on over-the-counter I'm losing my F'in mind medication, and finally 6000 on an engagement ring to convince my then girlfriend to stick through this sh** with me-haha.

    Good news-she said yes…and the firm I start with in January will reimburse all my costs along with a passing bonus so I will actually make money on this whole god forsaken process.
