How much change in FAR since 2008?

I originally started to prep for the exam in 2008. Then… well, life happened. I’m now unemployed (thanks, life!) and at least trying to use the time productively. I would be hoping to take FAR in August. I still have my 2008 materials. I am planning to update to a 2010 test bank from Gleim, where I got my materials the first time, which is $55 alone. To add the book to is is an extra $30. Being unemployed… I probably really shouldn’t spend that $30 I don’t have. (I don’t really have the $55 either, but my old software seems to have been disabled.) How much has actually changed? Can I find a summary of changes per year somewhere that I can just use to make notes in my book about what’s different?

Please spend the $30 for the new book. Each exam does cost around $300..

I don't know if you gamble, but the odds are in your favor. Spend $30 to potentially win (i.e. save) $300 is in your best interest.

I also started this process in 2008 using Becker. The software expired last June. I purchased just the 2010 version of FAR and was shocked that most of the new book is exactly like the 2008 version. There are a few sections with minor changes but nothing too major.

I think if you have software questions to work and are comfortable with the material in your 2008 book you should be in good shape.

Due to my own procrastination, I have '08 Gleim books. I used the old books for both BEC (passed) and AUD (not sure of result yet). I bought the 2010 book for REG which I'm studying for now, mostly because tax law changes every 3 days, it seems. I was planning on using the '08 book for FAR, especially since if I have to extend any exams into 2011 I'll have to buy new books then. I guess its a gamble to use the older books… honestly though, if its really only $30 for the new one, I would get the new one (however I do feel your stress with being unemployed, and $30 is $30). I kept my old ones because my new books are about $100 each.

FAR isn't the exam to nickel and dime.

Buy now or you'll likely be buying later in my opinion.
