how long does it take to compile notes?

..the only notes i’ve taken so far are the ones by tim gearty/peter olinto from the video lectures on the edges of my book.

so far, i’m done with f1-f7, and half of f9. i’ve watched all the lectures, and done all the mcq’s and supplemental questions. i haven’t done the sims yet.

my plan is to write some notes for each chapter and redo the mcq’s, then move on to the next chapter, write notes, and do the mcqs. once i’m done writing notes and redoing all the mcq’s, i’ll do a final review to test my comprehensive knowledge.

my question is, how long does it take to compile notes? i may have to shift my study method if it takes a long time to compile notes and just do mcq’s.

any recommendations on what you would do if you’ve gotten as far as i’ve done and have until mid-late january to prepare?

It can take a lot of time to write notes, but if you're not taking your exam until mid-late January, then I would think you have enough time to take the notes and do the questions. You could always take notes for the first couple of chapters and if you think it's taking too much time, get the Ninja notes. I think you have a good plan though.

I'm taking FAR early January and have gone through the material one time. Although I went through F7-F9 pretty fast because I was going to take it this month and realized there was just no way I would be prepared. I took notes while I was going through the material and it did slowed me down, but it's nice to have the notes for reviewing. I'm going to go through a chapter of notes and then doing the questions for that chapter. Then after going through F1 and F2, I'll go back and do a quiz on both of them and so. Hopefully the material will start to stick!

One day is today! I'm DOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!!!!

It sounds to me like you're using Becker. What I did was to listen to a lecture for one section of a chapter at a time….the Tchapters have too much info to listen to the lecture and absorb it all. Then I would answer the multiple choice questions for the section, and I would use the notes page in the software to write notes on the questions I got wrong. Every question that I got wrong (and the 1st time there were alot of them) I would explain the answer in my own terms so that I understood the concept. For example with bonds- if it sells at a premium or discount when I wrote it out and thought about it the concept is fairly simple- a bond will sell at a premium when the mkt. rate is lower than the stated rate because an investor is always paid on the face amount at the stated rate so naturally they'll pay more. The questions I know I never go back to- no need to waste time and once I understand the concept I delete what I've entered in the notes page- it's also a waste of time to reread and spend time on what you know. Then when I'm done with the chapter I print out the notes page and hand write my notes (usually at night- seems to work best for me) in a notebook. I rewrite these notes every few nights until I know the formula, nmeumonic, or concept I'm having a hard time with. I also had Jeff”s notes and reviewed them. You've got the time so make the effort and you'll pass the first time. BTW- I didn't but I'm going to pass FAR this time. Good luck to you and I hope this helps.

Take notes, they will be helpful during the final review process. FAR includes lots of material, please take notes. I had to re-schedule, and watch the lectures a second time, becasue I did take good notes.

    Good Luck!!!

The information you guys have provided have all been so useful! Thanks so much for the advice and input. Since I have Jeff's NINJA notes, I'll try to rewrite those to save time instead of doing my own from the Becker book.

Good luck to you all! I do believe, too, that if I put in enough effort, I will undoubtedly pass.
