I passed far with an 80 studied for about 3 months. Memmorized 99% of the passmaster questions then on the weekend before the exam supplemented with wiley test bank. First run through the passmaster i felt so overwhelmed and dumb to put it plainly. The second and third time through everything made sense. Just push through. No point wallowing in self pity

FAR is certainly a battle for me. Everyone has their beast and I know this is it. I'm going in for my fourth (and hopefully last!) bout at the end of this window.

It definitely seems overwhelming at times. Chapter 2 is the most nitty-gritty little details and concepts you need to know, but once you move on, the other chapters are on much more broad and have concepts that flow throughout the module.

One of my favorite quotes regarding FAR (or any of the exams, really) is that it is “an inch deep but a mile wide” – you will get overwhelmed with the amount of material, but what you really need to know is just the basic concepts of each. Becker really does a good job with focusing on those areas usually tested.

My problem has been getting caught up in the details and then missing the basic concept questions on the exam. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THESE, then dig deeper.

However, don't let that get to your head. Prepare for the exam like you need to pass with 90%. MCQ are the key, once you go though the material, do each section until you are scoring really well (I usually say 80% – 90% and not because you are memorizing them)….if you aren't doing well, go back, take notes, made notes on MCQ you missed and why.

FAR is frustrating and time sensitive (can't study for too long, but must know pretty much everything). But, I'm right here with ya and have been since the beginning of the year.

Still need 30 more credits, in basket weaving (gotta love new CA requirements)

Oh and KNOW your IFRS vs. GAAP!

I think NINJA notes do the best job at outlining the differences in one place!

    @hustlinhustlin,

I agree whole heartedly…..Far has so much stuff until it should be a two part test. ( I don't want to give them any ideas).

I feel like I have been studying forever but I am going to face the giant on the 31st. I'm doing mcq's now and rewriting notes, not more lectures and books. Oh I hope this is enough to pass.

    It begins with a 75
Been here too long as a cheerleader....ready to pass

FAR makes me so angry sometimes!!! I'm not sure if it's because this is my last section and I'm getting burned out on studying or what but there are so many obscure and tiny factoids that are testable that I find myself yelling “WTF” or “Come on, man!!!” at the Test Bank with some regularity. I realize that is completely irrational yet I am unable to stop doing it! I don't know who will be happier after 8/8, myself or my husband!!!! 😉

@Mints: Stay the course! You got this!

FAR was the first exam I took. I've always been a great test taker so I did exactly what I did in school: I procrastinated. Anyone who's taken this exam knows that the CPA exam laughs at procrastinators and hands them a big, fat F.

As you can see, FAR kicked my ass. F2 was a beast of a chapter and I didn't focus at all on Govt/NFP which is heavily tested, but probably the easiest information to grasp.

For my second attempt, I added the NINJA FAR Audio and started from scratch with the Becker materials. I wrote so many notes my hands fell off my wrists. After another two and a half months, I thought I was the FAR master. Took the exam and felt like I got hit by train. All I can remember is thinking how unfair FAR was. So much information.

When I got my 76, I was in total shock. I felt like I barely squeaked by, and even though I improved by grade by 26 pts. I couldn't believe that I was so close to failing when I felt like I was so strong at FAR while studying.

For anyone studying FAR, my heart goes out to you. I wouldn't wish FAR on my worst enemies. Keep your head glued in the book, MCQ's until you puke, get supplemental MCQ's and puke on those. Master your journal entries and know your t-accounts like the back of your hand. And be sure to pour a lot of time into Govt/NFP.

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.
