How important is the research question?

How important is the research question? I read some posts where you should leave it last to do because it’s worth the least. Is that true?

I left my research question blank because I ran out of time and couldn’t figure it out. It’s more I couldn’t find it then running out of time since I had 15 minutes in the end to look for it. That topic was just impossible to find!

And this would be a huge moral support for me: Has anyone know they 100% got the research question wrong and still passed? (Hopefully with a good score)

    FAR - 7/19/2012 - 95
    REG - 8/2/2012 - 91
    AUD - 8/15/2012 - 97
    BEC - 8/31/2012 - 90

The research question is worth the same as any other SIM.

Yes, you can still pass if you get the research question wrong.

Don't worry about getting a good score. A 99 is no better than a 75.

Haha thanks! Yea I just want to pass. I was just hoping if people still passed with a decent score with getting the research question wrong then maybe the research questions aren't worth a whole 6.67%.

Is there partial credit for Research? Such as if I get a codification section right? Or if I choose IRC vs. TS right?

And as said before, if anyone else passed an exam without getting the research question right, please let me know! it would be a huge booster for me right now!

Don't worry about the research question – I never could get it right in practice exams. I passed FAR with an 84 and I didn't even answer my research question.

I'll be honest, for me it was a pass fail. My two attempts at FAR I'm almost 100% sure I didn't get the Research correct.

    Reg 4/18/12 78
    Far 7/30/12 74, 74, 75
    Bec 11/11/12 74, 78
    Aud TBD 51, 71, XX

Thanks gtown for the morale boost. Quick question, did you have one or two research questions? I'm guessing you just had one and left it blank? That honestly makes me feel a lot better.

@Mikey89 – Thanks for the brutal honestly. Sorry you got 74 twice….. I'm sure you'll get it next time. Did your performance summary say you were weak in the Sims? Also how did you feel about the other sims you had? Congrats on passing REG too. Did you nail the research question for that one?

Kcoolby, I only had one research question, and I left it blank. My suggestion would be to know the MCQs as best as possible, then it leaves room for error on the sims.

    REG: 85
    BEC: 83

The research question will definitely not make or break your score, IF you feel good about the MCQs and the other SIMS. There is still hope. Just as a future reference, it worth just as much as the other sections, so try and tackle it first… I think it's really easy points, you just gotta be good at it. Like anything else, practice makes perfect.

@gtown – Thanks a lot for answering. You definitely took a huge load off my shoulders knowing you scored well even without the research question.

@jenuno01 – I usually am pretty good at nailing the research questions. My other exam I had it right and on Becker I tend to maybe not find 1 out of all the research questions they give you.

In regards to how you state how the research is worth just as much as other sims, are you positive? I posted this in another post where someone asked the same question. And I think it may support the fact that the TBS questions are scaled and therefore the research may be worth less than the other TBS questions.

“Scaled scores on the multiple-choice and task-based simulation portions of the Exam

are calculated using formulas that take into account factors such as whether the question was answered correctly and the relative difficulty of each question.”

I meant it's worth the same as the other SIMS.

“The research question is worth the same as any other SIM” < Mr. Mini is never wrong.

Well yea I understood that…. but may I ask why you or Mr. mini thinks the research sim is worth 6-8% just like every other sim?

Aren't some sims possibly worth more than other sims because of the scaled scoring based on difficulty? Therefore a research question may be considered easy and be worth less than other sims. I guess this is my main question for this thread haha.

Chill out… I'm sure you're not the only one who has ever gotten a research question wrong, and I'm sure many of those still passed. And If you unfortunately did end up failing, the research question won't be the reason you failed. You'll clearly have many more deficiencies which were much more controllable than the topic of the research sim you received. Let it go. There's nothing you can do about it now.

@cardinal – It's also me trying to figure it out for other parts too. If the research question isn't worth very much then I know I do not need to focus as much or spent a lot of time on it if I can't get it. I would rather focus on the other sims.

Also if i get a 73 or 74…. then the research question could definitely be a difference between a pass and fail (given I agree that there were other deficiencies too)
