I have been taking the NINJA MCQs and not doing very well. But today I took the 2017 AICPA Released Questions Moderate and got 95% right, without guessing, no problem.

Are those questions actually representation of the Moderate Testlet?

The first testlet will always be a “medium” difficulty testlet. Depending on how you perform on this, your next testlet will either be “medium” or “difficult”. “Moderate” and “medium” are the same for AICPA.
    – Yes, the AICPA questions should be pretty representative of what you will see on the actual exam. Most people feel the actual exam is at least slightly easier than their review course. This isn't on accident- review courses want you to be over-prepared.
    – If you do well on the actual exam, the next testlet will be “difficult”. Those are challenging, and your review course level of difficulty questions will be important. That being said, every review course I have worked in/seen has questions I would rate as closer to “insane”. I wouldn't expect to see any of those, but there are for sure difficult problems on the exam.

The sample exams I would best describe as fluff. Just so you get the concepts. Specifically for the SIMs. Same style, but the volume is overwhelming compared to the Sample SIMs.

Thanks – has anyone every researched how likely one is to pass their exam if they get the Difficult vs the Moderate 2nd testlet?

If you get the Moderate testlet 2nd are you already screwed?

I did stronger on both AUD and FAR MCQ and I didn't see a marked difference on either testlet. Also felt the same on REG and BEC. I just felt the areas tested were noticeably different.

Well, often people can't tell moderate vs difficult. On REG and FAR I could tell a noticeable difference, but not so much on AUD and BEC. It is possible to pass or fail with a moderate-moderate or a moderate-difficult.

I think generally the Released questions are on the easy side, but I for sure thought the actual exam was easier than my review program's quizzes.

As long as the questions are along the lines of: what is the effect on ending inventory and COGS in a period of rising price under FIFO vs LIFO? -I can work out those answers all day. It's the obscure ones about what you call some term or other in NPO accounting or which pronouncements apply to GAGAS or what year the SEC was started that scare me. So much useless sh!t to memorize.
