    Hi everyone!

I’m new to this site, and I’m glad to be here. I am looking for some insight on what to do about passing FAR. I am scheduled to take FAR for the THIRD, yes THIRD, time at the end of May. I am a horrible test taker naturally, so this whole CPA experience has been an extra challenge for me. I was fortunate to pass REG, but I can’t seem to get there with FAR. I will lose my REG score in November of this year. I need to pass FAR this time as I still have BEC and AUD to take. UGH!! HELP! Any other horrible test takers out there that can shed some light on my situation?

I am taking my first exam 7/22…Can confirm a few details of the test experience:

    1. So can you start writing on the note board before putting the code?

    2. When you put in the code does that start the “clock” for your exam?

    3. Does the 10-minute or less review of the introductory screens count in your total exam time?

    4. Is there a clock any where in the Prometric test area so you know how much time you have before starting the exam while writing down your mneumonics and quick notes on the note board?

    5. Hoes does everyone like the note board? I hear mixed things?

    6. I assume you can keep track of time by looking the time on the computer…I use Windows 7 and the time is in the right bottom corner. Is that true for the exam?

    7. Can you wear a watch?

Cindy from Yaeger suggests starting the exam and doing a few MCQS before doing the brain dump. The exam center sets up your exam and if you wait too long after you sit down to put in your launch code the exam can time out.

There is a timer that counts down on your exam so you can monitor time remaining.

At my local pro metric center we cannot wear a watch… But we can't chew gum either.

When you put the launch code in there is a start button which takes you to your first teset a d starts the clock.

I don't mind the whiteboards but sometimes you get a crap marker and have to ask for another.

@clbrown23 – Have you read the candidate bulletin? That should answer almost all of your questions.

Regarding #5, I've taken 2 exams with pencil/paper and 1 exam with the whiteboard (REG). Although I would definitely prefer pencil and paper, I really didn't mind using the whiteboard.

I do not recommend chewing gum. I did it one time and when I was running low on time I decided not to take my break and my gum started to melt in my mouth! It was horribly disgusting.

Practice writing your brain dump so that you get fast at it, then you won't have to worry about the 10 minute time out issue. I can do a brain dump in 1-2 minutes. Don't write too much or you will run out of room for your calculations and have to ask for another white board.

    No watches, period.

@Jennifer241 and others, can you get a second white board and not return the first with your brain dump?

@clbrown23 – Seriously, you should read the candidate bulletin. It will answer the majority of your exam related questions.

“Effective January 2, 2013, in lieu of scratch paper and pencils, candidates will be provided with two double sided, laminated, colored sheets called “noteboards,” as well as a fine point marker for making notations. You will be directed to write your examination Launch Code (from your NTS) on your noteboards. You will be required to return the noteboards to the test center staff when your examination is complete. If you need additional writing space, you may request additional noteboards from the test center staff, but you must first turn in the original noteboards you received in order to get a new supply.”

    @clbrown23:

    1. So can you start writing on the note board before putting the code? I don't think so

    2. When you put in the code does that start the “clock” for your exam? I'm pretty sure

    3. Does the 10-minute or less review of the introductory screens count in your total exam time? No, you have to keep track.

    4. Is there a clock any where in the Prometric test area so you know how much time you have before starting the exam while writing down your mneumonics and quick notes on the note board? Not in my TC.

    5. Hoes does everyone like the note board? Going green is a great thing. Less paper. As long as the markers are fine, I don't see a difference. My TC gave me 2 markers in case one was bad.

    6. I assume you can keep track of time by looking the time on the computer…I use Windows 7 and the time is in the right bottom corner. Is that true for the exam? Top-center. The whole screen is the software, so there is no visible taskbar.

    7. Can you wear a watch? NO

And about the gum comments, you can bring a kleenex into the TC and just spit it out and throw it out after you are done. Or just swallow it (it doesn't take 7 years to digest..don't believe your childhood lies). I can't see a reason to use your time by going on breaks. Dehydrate yourself the night before and then drink a ton right before the test, so you don't have to worry.
