How do you battle the FAR…false sense of security??!!

I’ve been studying all day and every quiz result is in the 85% or better range. I am frustrated because I KNOW (sadly, from experience) that this is a false sense of security. There WILL be questions that I haven’t studied, or the questions WILL be asked in just that way that I am not sure of which answer is most correct. I know there is more to study but I feel like I know the material. Right now, I am focusing on Wiley Test Bank and my next step is to go through the Wiley book, answer and take notes on all the IFRS questions.

Any suggestions?? 6 study days til FAR.

Baxter, Keep working those MC's. I am pretty sure that you know from passing the other parts how crucial it is to know how to work them backward, forwards, sideways up, down and any way that the examiners could throw them at you. For FAR, I practiced all of the SIMS in Becker but found that it was knowing the MC that actually helped me through them on the exam.

There will always be questions that are off the wall. Hopefully those are the pre-test questions but try not to stress over those.

Also, you may want to try a bunch of research questions. This part always frustrated me. When I passed FAR(the third time I took it and my final part) I made sure to spend more time on this.

And never underestimate Governmental and NFP.

How has your time management been on FAR when taking the exam?

    Best wishes!

P.S. I took AUD twice, BEC and REG four times each and FAR three times.

@baxter you could spend a few hours drilling SIMS if your MCQs are starting to feel “too good to be true”! The Wiley text book has an absurd for each topic to practice with! When my brain starts to hurt from too many SIMS, I read through the solution and study how every number was arrived at. I also like @candothis suggestion of practicing the research SIMS!

You are going to destroy FAR on the 10th!!!!!!! 🙂

    REG: 75 DONE 🙂
    AUD: 61, 71, 68, 92 DONE 🙂
    BEC: 76 DONE 🙂
    FAR: 72, 74, 79 DONE 🙂

BaxterCPA: You can do this! You are going to pass FAR. My suggestion is to also review other areas you have lower scores in. I like using the reports function to help me in determining that. Also, I review JE's as that will help with many of the questions.

Good Luck, you will be posting a fill passing score soon! Look forward to seeing that score and rejoicing that you have finished this journey.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I've done every research and every sim in Wiley but only once. Today is my daughters 24th birthday so we are going to lunch and shopping this afternoon. The break will do my poor nerves some good! After that I've decided to focus on bonds…ugh…governmental and NFP since those are heavily weighted. Next week I will be rewriting NINJA notes and doing random 30 question tesets and sims with all topics selected. 🙂

In my mind I feel like I am going to battle with FAR and I am rallying the troops…but FAR knows I'm coming so it is planning a major defensive as well!! :/

Beach girl- I was thinking about you last night! How are you holding up? When is your surgery? Did you reschedule your exam. Keep your chin up and study everyday! *hugs*

BaxterCPA: you have a good plan. Stick with it, and win the war against FAR! Happy Birthday to your daughter. I hope you have a great afternoon together.

Thank you for your support. I appreciate it, and it has meant a lot to me, and helped keep me focused. Thank you. Surgery is wed morning. I am mostly been good, but I have the “sad” moments, then I refocus and keep going. I have not rescheduled the test yet. Waiting to see how I feel after the surgery. Figured I would make the call about the week after. Not sure if I can get through enough material to be ready, so we will see. My boss is being very encouraging, and will give extra time to study, if needed. ((Hugs))

Just keep working those multiple choice questions! I know what really helped me before going into the exam was skimming the book. I found it was really helpful, especially for the journal entries. That way, things are very fresh in your mind come test day. Also, if you are really sick of doing questions but still want to feel like you are being productive, reading will certainly help! I remember specifically getting a few questions on my exam that I remember reading the night before (simple conceptual questions). Also, for the sims, just try your best! I found mine to be crazy and I was laughing at half of them but instead of panicking just really try and focus on what they are asking you for. It sounds like you are doing the best you can to prepare, hang in there you can do it!!!
