knollrMemberI’m taking FAR in January and I got Wiley 2012 book and of course ninja notes for FAR.
Should I study the book cover to cover or start answering MCQs and go back if I don’t remember the topic.
Hmmm.. What other review materials can you recommend?

Study MonkMemberI am studying FAR right now and there is a lot of material. I have been moving slowly through it and trying not to move on until I am relatively familiar with the material. I personally don't like going over the multiple choice until I am strong on the concepts behind them.
However I was struggling with grasping the pension calculations and it was helpful to focus on the computation problems and then go back to reading the book. I think if you work multiple choice questions before understanding the material you risk thinking you know the material when really you memorized the answers to questions. If you have access to three review programs and 6000 questions it might work though, but if you have 100 questions per chapter you might miss some stuff. I would like to hear theories from more experienced test takers than myself on this.
I like Yaeger videos as a compliment to my Becker program, however since they go over wiley books it might be all you need.
I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:
"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

knollrMemberThanks! I took the exam 4 years ago, but it was IFRS (different country). There's a lot of topics for FAR I'm just scared that I might not be able to cover everything on time. But you're right, I should go back to the concepts first.
I'll look at Yaeger videos too.
It's hard to start the review and I'm trying so hard not to procrastenate.
-whiny reviewee (just for today)
Im going to become a CPA in 2014!

AnonymousInactiveI think is about your preferences when studying. Myself, I enjoy watching lectures of someone that gives me the clue of important subjects and later I go to the books to optimize my time. Started with Roger and I'm pleased so far..
Ninja looks awesome for my study method as well.
Try to see what fits you better!
Good luck!

AnonymousInactiveI am also starting to study for FAR, planning to take the exam in January and I am using Becker. For the last 3 exams, I have done each chapter the Becker way (doing all of the lectures and homework before moving on) but I feel like with FAR there is just so much material that I would forget everything from the homework after a few chapters. I am going to try the Ninja method this time and watch all the lectures before I move on to the homework and if I don't remember something in the homework I will watch that part of the lecture again. I am so scared of FAR and how much material it covers but hopefully it won't be as bad as I think once I get into it.
I would also appreciate any FAR tips anybody has!

SlickRickMemberWhen studying for FAR, as you move through the material be sure to take a part of each study session and review stuff that you learned previously. If you just rip through all the material without looking back, you will have a brutal time during your final review learning all the early stuff over again. I think doing that is the main reason I passed the test on my first try.
