I was just reviewing governmental funds and decided to share a helpful way that my Becker instructor taught us, some people remember this by the GRSSP funds but I found this more helpful, before you fill up on gas you must remove “dgascap” – the gas cap.

See I know my stuff I just get really freaked out on test day. Yesterday I did really good at keeping the anxiety in check. I'm actually hopeful this time but I don't want to get my hopes up too high.

@Dual, Kricket can confirm..but I think you only consider beginning amounts when are trying to figure out the SUb's Net income for the year.. then you would consider Beg RE add in Dividends and plug for Net Income… then you calculate you noncontrolling interest stuff…

Also the formula for NCI is: Beg NCI + Sub%Net Income – Sub%Dividend = End NCI

Maybe that's where you're getting confused? Just trying to help… this is some pretty important stuff.

Yeah, I was wrong. I remember reading a calculation about beginning amounts in my Becker book. It turns out that they were emphasizing that you do debit the R/E at whatever the amount was at the ACQUISITION date. So all year end, R/E may be different from R/E at acquisition date so you have to work backwards to arrive at the acquisition date R/E if it's not given. Thank you. Better that I know this now than after I took the exam 😀

I love PUFER for comprehensive income. Plus, it ties so much together (Pension adj in funded status) – Becker Ch. 6, Unrealized gains and Loses on Available for Sale Sec – Chapter 3, Foreign Currency translations – Chapter 2, Effective portion cash flow hedges – Chapter 7 and IFRS Revaluation surplus. Whenever I see a question like “The effective portions of the cash flow hedge are reported in……” I think of this and it makes so much sense.

    Nobody relies on fart vaginas

…..now that I have made this awkward, that is mine for remembering the elements of reliance – neutrality and verifiability.

I'm sick, I know. But really, nobody should ever rely on them.

One of my favorites is the “HAMBOCI” sandwich (think: Ham on boci bread) to remember the Control Environment.

    H – Human Resources

    A – Assignment of Authority

    M – Management

    B – Board of Directors

    O – Organizational sctructure

    C – Commitment to Competence

    I – Integrity & Ethics.

Another one is CAR for segregation of duties: Custody, Authorization, Recording

(BTW: There is no such thing as Boci bread but it worked for me because there is an Italian restaurant called Bocci that I love, so I pretended it's their bread).

Should have used Becker >.< But thank you for mentioning these mnemonics. I will figure out how to use them hopefully.

On an unrelated note. I was looking at old threads and Jeff suggested something so simple yet so elegant that when I told my friends, their jaws dropped at how stupid I was. Watching the Yaeger Home Study course at 1.33x speed is amazing. You just pay better attention when Phil speaks at a normal pace. and he does a much better job at 1.3 speed.
