HELP! – Struggling with passing first part!

So basically I failed FAR twice, my last time being a 74. 🙁 hurt very very bad. Moved on to audit so I didn’t waste the last month of the quarter being I knew my FAR score was on the brink of passing or not. Just received my score of a 73 on audit and was absolutely devastated. I start my job at a Big 4 firm in literally a month and I’ve been hearing of future co-workers starting with me all passing parts and if not just parts done with the whole test! I know comparing yourself to others isn’t the way to go but it’s hard especially working at such a big firm and wondering what everyone else is thinking. So basically should I be worried of how I have zero parts passed before I officially start? I am beginning studying for FAR again – I’ve used Becker self-study for the two times I’ve taken it (no final review material) and don’t know if I should invest in anything else or even rewatch the Becker lectures. Any advice is appreciated, just want to pass a part and see how it feels!

Don't freak out, you will eventually make it.

I graduated in December, started working in big 4 in Jan, have no time whatsoever to study for CPA exam until the first busy season is over. But I am stupid enough to registered my material before my graduation, which means I wasted totally the first 6 months of the 18-month Becker software license.

And I begin slowly realized all my peer group (means same level staffs) were graduated in May 2011, started in October, majority of them already passed 3 or 4 parts when they started (because they have that free summer as you do). But still, I made 3 of my exams last summer during work, final one after this busy season.

My point is, as long as you began studying, you should be alright, I am sure you can pass all of them next year, if not this year. Good luck!! Just don't give up!!

Thanks for your encouragement! I can only imagine studying during busy season and that's why I wanted to get at least 2 parts down before work but I guess I gotta suck it up now and figure out a good study schedule. The 74 is absolutely brutal!!!!! Thinking that 1 or 2 MC better and it would've been totally different. I feel like I should get more material than just the Becker I've already gone through 2x. Haven't purchased final review or flash cards, do you recommend any of those? Are a wiley book or ninja ten point combo? Thanks!

Personally, I think any material would be enough for covering the test, as long as you can manage all the content in the books (I don't think Becker, Wiley test bank or other brand matters). If you can get extra reimbursement from your employer, and you are very concerned your current book on hand is not enough, you can go for any other major brand. But again, personally, I think Becker is enough. just focus on one material, don't skip anything.

I also just used Becker self study, but it probably depends on your study style as well. I also found it really helpful to outline some of the topics into more condensed notes, and to explain topics to someone else (if you can find someone who can stay awake!) Whatever happens, you have a lot to be proud of already! Landing a job at the Big Four is nothing to sneeze at, so keep that in mind. You can do it!
