Hi everyone. I just started studying for FAR, I’m enrolled in the Becker online course which does F A R B, it’s supposed to be two chapters per week and I’m supposed to take the exam in mid October. I shopped around a lot before deciding for Becker. I thought I was just going to buy it, read the books, watch the lectures and do the MC and be perfectly fine. Well, NOT SO MUCH. I have spent countless hours this first week studiyng and I’m failing miserably on the homework questions and MCQ, I’m not learning anything, nothing’s sticking and I’m worried sick that I won’t pass or won’t have time to study everything, I don’t want to postpone the exam. So I have some questions for anybody that reads this long post: is this normal? is it going to get better, are any of these things going to stck? any tips on studying? where is the passmaster on the course? would I be fine just taking the passmaster exam and reading the explanations?

    Thanks so much!!!

This is totally normal. It all comes together. For me it started sticking after my second run thru the material. One day at a time is the best approach. You can do it. I am on the five yard line and plan on a touchdown.

First of all, it's normal. It does start to come together during the review stage. Secondly, it's not as simple as just listening to the lecture, reading the book, doing some MCQs, and passing. There is a LOT of information to get through and it is difficult to remember it all. Are you taking notes? Making flashcards? You need to find the way you learn best and keep at it. Doing progress tests after each chapter which incorporate questions from the previous chapters help to maintain previous learning, at least somewhat. Reviewing flashcards also helps. Being a visual learner, I do best summarizing each chapter with my own notes and writing notes of any formulas/calculations in the chapter to help solidify the process.

Are you working full time or can you devote your entire days to this? With working, I was able to get through one chapter per week – not feeling really solid about it, but got through the tasks needed and moved on. Also went through Becker's Final Review product, which took another week. Then I had about 2 weeks to review before the exam, so it took me about 13 weeks total. Many do it in a much smaller time frame, but I would not have felt comfortable with any less time on this one. In my opinion, FAR is a marathon, not a sprint. So be ready to put in the time and don't stress too much in the beginning. You'll get used to it.

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)
