I would know the differences between Accrual and Modified Accrual. I would then know what government funds use which; such as capital projects (modified accrual); enterprise fund (accrual), ect. ect. This should cover alot of governmental accounting because once you get the fundamental bones you should be able to cross out the wrong answers and really hone in on what is right.

For Non-Profits, that section is a doosey because of all its weird revenue rules and this balance vs that balance. I dont have a good point to say this is a fundamental foundation as it is a bunch of mini gtochas that only mc can hammer home.

I agree with Whopper Warrior, know the basics, also try an know which F/S applies to which governmental fund/ entities ie and what measurement focus they report in. For the non profits try and know what f/s they report and the different types of non profits.. Again, go through EVERYTHING!

Make sure to understand the financial statements for not only the Gov. wide but fund financials as well! It's prime MCQ gold to ask “which of the following statements are NOT required for XXX fund?” and hear nothing but crickets chirping in your head or get confused by the answer choices. I'm making flashcards of the specific statements required by all the funds to keep everything straight.
