So…. I just found out I got 74 on reg and keep refreshing the nasba website to make sure that’s really the score.. And it is! Is there any possibility to ask the CPA exam review team to go over my test again….probably not!!! So I’m stuck with a 74!

Thanks again @mrs300. Seriously, hearing you and others talk about their experiences is keeping me going.

I got my FAR 65 while in the master's program full-time and working part-time last August. Mistake (obviously). After the FAR fail, I already had REG scheduled for November. I couldn't reschedule and realized I wasn't going to pull it off. So instead of killing myself trying, I gave myself a pass and decided to concentrate on school and skip taking it that window at all. I sat for it cold (for the experience and because I paid for it) and got a 60.

I skipped all study during tax season. I cutback to part-time work immediately afterwards to study REG which resulted in my 74 at the end of this May. My fear is that if I can't pass when my only commitment is working part-time, how will I pass when I go back to full-time? I can't work part-time forever and from my bosses point of view I have been working on the exam for almost a year.

Whine, whine, I know. Many of you have way more to handle than I, families, demanding jobs and the rest. We all have different logs in the road. I'm just upset because it's a fresh 74. It can help to share this stuff with people who know.

This forum really keeps me from completely losing my mind. Most of my friends are busy having babies and taking maternity leave. They don't have professional jobs and don't understand the intense pressure cooker this is. My family doesn't get it because school was a breeze for me, so when I fail it appears as if I'm not trying.

Would you boss let you work full-time during busy season and part-time non-busy season? I work 2 days a week outside of tax season and then 55 hours from 2/1 – 4/15. Then I work 40 hours a week from 8/15 – 10/15. So just don't even study during tax season and let your boss know you're fully committed during those times. But outside of tax season, it's your time.

I'm not sure if this will work, because you're in a smaller firm, but some variation of this schedule seems like a win-win situation. They don't lose any money on you. You get your study/flex time outside of busy season.

If you can afford it, it's worth a shot. My firm LOVES my flex schedule. But obviously, it's not for everyone.

@mrs300 More or less that is kind of what I'm doing. I wish my office was more understanding.

I worked around 60 hours/week during tax season. I now work around 20 hours/week until my PTO and vacation runs out. I offered to work part-time at an hourly rate but they don't seem thrilled by that idea. (Note: my summer so far has not been terribly billable so I'm not sure why they care.)

The day after tax day my boss informed me that the hours I worked indicated that “I wasn't trying. I wasn't committed. It looks like you don't care.” Apparently, he expected 80 hours/week. He didn't communicate this to me during tax season, only after. He has never been critical of the quality of my work and I have asked nonpartner reviewers to give me the unvarnished truth. They have pointed out legitimate first year mistakes but generally praise my efforts. On a side note, in March I was ill for two weeks and continued to work 60 hrs/week despite having tests at the hospital, etc.

I have been on two interviews in the last two weeks in search of another position and have other leads that look promising. My goal is to find something else by this fall. I think my job situation has added to my stress. A pass on this last exam would have been a great pick-me-up.

” Failure is a part of success. ” – absolutely agree with you Mrs 300! I entered club 74 today as well. Nobody can be always on a top, and may be it is the better time for us not to be on top. We will get it next time. Now I have to change my every day routine, but that's fine. Changes can be good too! Cheer up, guys and let's get back to studying.

Yup, most of us have joined the 74 club at some point.
