My GMAT experience consisted of the following two steps:

    1) sign up for test

    2) take test

    The test isn't difficult.

Yeah – I didn't study either and I scored well enough to get into my program back in the day. It wouldnt hurt to look some of the topics over though.

I studied 2 hours and scored 400 on the GMAT.

If I had doubled my studying I could have probably doubled my score.

    5-10 hours is good.

    670. I scored well enough to get me into my program which only required like a 540 or something with the GPA I had (3.8). That's all I cared about. Maybe I should have phrased it like this “The test isn't so difficult that you can't get the score you need to complete your degree”. I'm sure it is very difficult to score a perfect 800 though, I just didn't think that was what OP was going for.

I didn't study for the SAT either and got 1290 on that, so I think your GMAT ends up being about half of your SAT if you don't prepare for either one. (when the SAT's top score was 1600)

Back in the day I took a GMAT practice test and got a 580 on it, and same on the real thing. That was good enough to get into the school I wanted to go.

Now if I decide to take this, I'm going to shoot for the high 700's. Even if I have to study calculus all over again.

I figure if I rock the CPA and PMP I can rock the GMAT.

I would study more than that, but I guess it depends. How high of a score do you need/want? I studied more than that, although not excessivly so, and got around a 620 (and consider myself smart) and know several people who studied more than than who got in the low 500's/high 400's (these were B average accounting students).

When you register, they give you a CD with a couple practice exams in it. I'd say, after 5 hours, take a practice exam, and if you're content with your score on that, stop studying. I think I got a 700 on my practice exam – so they are not precise, but will give you a range (also, I managed my time terribly during my actual exam vs. during my practice exam).

670 is very good considering you didn't study at all – I'd imagine that is abnormal. Good job!
