cpagalParticipantHas anyone here used Gleim to successfully pass FAR? I am trying to decide between the traditional and premium version. The only difference (for me) is the video lectures. Did you find them helpful?
FAR - 08/30/15 - 90
AUD - 11/12/15 - 92
REG - 01/19/16 - 82
BEC - 02/29/16 - 83Passed all on 1st attempt using GLEIM (full program) and NINJA (MCQ only)!!!

AnonymousInactiveGennatay and Trish, are you sure they didn't give you an answer PLUS the spiel about only answering certain questions? Like I said, I've asked tons and tons of questions, and have always gotten a response (and then all the garbage about “we will only answer certain types of questions” beneath it, so it blends in with the answer). Of those tons of questions, many were due to me misreading the instructions or making other stupid mistakes. I have not always been 100% pleased with the response I get (sometimes they miss the point of my question, maybe it's my fault for not being more clear), but I have never had a response that told me ONLY to look at a certain section of my book without some more information about that specific question.
PS FWIW, I thought the Gleim SIMs were really good overall. I actually had a SIM on my AUD exam that was exactly like one I had on Gleim.

yes they answered my question but made it weird for me to ask anymore I had only asked 5 or so questions….. they added the info below “*************” on my 5th question -_- like I said this forum made it possible for me not to ask em anything so I didnt care
Product Question:
When management willnot permit inquiry of outside legal counsel, the audit report will ordinarily contain a(n)
a: Disclaimer of opinion.
b: “Subject to” qualified opinion.
c: Unmodified opinion with a separate emphasis-of-matter paragraph.
d: “Except for” qualified opinion.
Your Answer: a
Correct Answer: a
Your Question: is a scope limitation to outside legal council always pervasive?
I chose Qualified because limitations imposed by management (ex: in the text book are observing inventory and confirming receivables) can qualify for a qualified opinion or a disclaimer.
Please help me understand this question / answer
Thank you
Patricia
Response:
Please note that the outline states in general that a limitation imposed by management can be a qualified opinion or disclaimer, but not permitting inquiry of outside legal counsel is a specific limitation imposed by management. If the auditor cannot determine the legality of certain acts or the amounts associated with them due to this management limitation, the auditor must disclaim an opinion or withdraw from the engagement. It is a more extreme case of a limitation imposed by management.

The goal at Gleim is to position all of our candidates for success. One of the many ways we do this is by giving our customers access to Gleim accounting experts via this Question and Answer service.
The Gleim self-study method is designed to prepare you to pass your exam under actual exam conditions. Part of this preparation includes independently working through our materials and the questions that they generate for you so that you develop an ability to problem solve on your own, just as you will have to do during the exam. Therefore, although we want to answer your questions, we also want to refrain from providing you with a level of support now that will inhibit your ability to function independently on exam day.
As a result, this service is designed to provide you with the ability to submit a reasonable number of inquiries about Gleim materials. It is not an unlimited service. However, most candidates find that our materials and study method provide them with all of the information they need to be successful and therefore submit very few questions.
In keeping with all of the above, the types of inquiries that we will not answer are:
1. General accounting questions or requests for in-depth explanations of general concepts
2. Questions already answered in the FAQ.
3. Questions on information outside of the scope of the exam
4. Hypothetical questions
5. Questions on material not produced by Gleim
6. Questions that disclose any information covered in a nondisclosure agreement

This is the original post I did about 3 months ago:
I had a question about a MCQ, so I asked a Gleim professor and their response left me with a bad feeling, like they were tapping me on the hand for asking. Take a look, am I being overly sensitive about their comment…
Fact Pattern:
The estimated unit costs for Cole Co. using absorption (full) costing and planning to produce and sell at a level of 12,000 units per month are as follows:
Estimated
Cost Item
Unit Cost
Direct materials
$32
Direct labor
20
Variable manufacturing overhead
15
Fixed manufacturing overhead
6
Variable selling
3
Fixed selling
4
Product Question:
Cole’s estimated conversion costs per unit are
a: $35
b: $41
c: $48
d: $67
Your Answer: b
Correct Answer: b
Your Question: If the company was using absorption costing, why wasn't direct materials taken into account?
Response:
Please note that the answer explanation says that conversion costs are costs spent converting the direct materials. Conversion costs include direct labor and manufacturing overhead. Direct labor and manufacturing costs are costs that *convert* raw materials or direct materials into finished goods.

AnonymousInactiveThank you both. Here's what I know…
I started with Gleim about 3 years ago. They didn't even have the Q&A back then as far as I can remember. Then they added the Q&A, and then about a year later, they started adding that disclaimer to all question responses. So Trish, I wouldn't think they added it because 5 questions was too much, I think they added it in general to every response and it just happened to be around that time.
Yeah, I got irritated the first few times I saw that portion beneath the response (starting with “The goal at Gleim …”) because I took it personally, but after a while, I let it go. The point is, no matter how stupid my questions are, I always get some kind of answer in front of that disclaimer. I just ignore the disclaimer and read the response.
I have over 50 questions just on page 1 of my Q&A, and I have 2 pages of Q&A (only since they implemented that system). 5 questions is nothing. But it takes so long to get responses that I started asking on the forum instead. I found that talking to people on the forum really helped not only solidify my understanding, but it helps immensely with memorization.
I also really like that you can click on wrong answer choices to see why each is wrong. This was a huge help to me, and not every software does that. But I will say that the “personal counselor” is 100% useless.
PS if you give them a SCHOOL email address, you'll get 10% knocked off your price instead of $50. You can change it later, it just needs to be a school email initially.

AnonymousInactiveNo, no, I was irritated by that disclaimer as well. It does make you feel as if you're not welcome to ask the questions. I will make sure to note that when I submit my section review.
I think the idea behind the discount is 10% off for students, but the only way they verify your student status is by using your student email.
They also gave me some free and discounted CPE courses when I told them I'd passed all 4 sections. Really could not be much more happy with Gleim.June 18, 2015 at 4:28 pm #674359
