I’m about to wrap up the first FAR module (F1) in Becker and I am getting discouraged on the MCQs. Overall I am getting more than half of them incorrect and I’ve yet to do the SIMs. Conceptually I think I understand the material, but the way the MCQs are worded always trips me up. I feel that at this point it’s less of an accounting problem and more of a language arts test. I have to read and re-read every sentence to make sure I’m not getting tricked. How is everyone else dealing with this? And will the MCQs be more straight forward on the actual exam?

I understand how you feel. That's the way I was doing the mcq's getting them wrong from not completely reading and understanding the question before I answer. I think just slow down. This is your first module completed with plenty more to go. This is a long journey. It is not going to be easy, nor will he questions. Try to slow down and read the question. It's not illegal to read and re-read the questions. I felt so good to get more right than wrong. Now if I can just get enough to pass. Good luck to you. Study hard.

    It begins with a 75

@Thisismyname – I think we've all been there. I know when I start doing MCQs I am usually 50/50,but the more you do them the better you get. While it might be difficult to get over the hump of only getting half right, try and see it as a learning opportunity. MCQs pose as a great learning tool, in that, you learn why that answer is right, and why the other 3 are wrong. Easier said than done, but try and focus more on learning than your score. Just practice, practice, and practice. The more you do the better off you will be.

The MCQ in FAR are really tricky. My best advice would be not to go into the MCQ expecting them to get them all correct or that they will be exactly like the lectures, especially with FAR. I have found in FAR that a lot of it is just learning how they are asking the questions and how that fits into the topic that they are covering. Don't get discouraged with the
MCQ because they frequently ask questions in a way that you have never seen before, which is all a part of the learning process. FAR is a very slow process, but over time your knowledge will build and you will become more familiar with how they are wording the questions. The questions on the exam are more straightforward, but Becker likes to throw everything at you that they possibly can. As long as you are understanding the main concept and some of the curve balls that they can throw at you, I would say you are doing fine. Just stay motivated and keep pushing through it. Hope this helps!
