I am using Gleim. I don’t ever remember seeing this specific topic. Did you have it in your study guide? I think I read that this topic is on the blueprint..?!

@VonBecker FAR didn't cover this, but you should definitely know this topic.

This is exactly why so many people are failing FAR. Unclear understanding of what is being tested. I can tell you for a FACT that I had an entire SIM on this topic, specifically related to PP&E GL to Subledger Reconciliation. I looked up in the blueprint, and it is listed there as a representative task. Did not see anything like it in Becker, felt very unprepared.

@lgitt001 – I know exactly what SIM you're referring to because when I saw that particular one, I felt lost in sauce so I had to use my accounting knowledge I learned from school in order to make educated guesses for filling out the blanks.

This was one of the reasons why I felt I failed and upset after walking out of the test center because Becker didn't cover that topic. Nonetheless, I passed FAR with a 87 so just trust the process and do what Becker tells you to do (if you have Becker). It's still a great CPA review material.

Thanks so much for this advice @big4Bean. This is my last exam, wanted to time it to take advantage of some extra time off I had during the winter break, but it just hasnt gone well.

Can you tell me what you recommend to get up to an 87 like you. I have past all in the 80s range using Becker…just so stuck on this last one!! Do I need to go back to my intermediate accounting text? or just hammer down on SIMS (did not practice all last time – ran out of time).

@kittenpants – I couldn't come up with a better phrase for how I felt during the exam lol

@lgitt001 – here is a thread I replied. I don't know if it's much help, but you can read what I replied. Given that it was my first try passing FAR, but I think my strategy can work on those who are re-attempting.

I am using Gleim. I did not see this topic covered at all. Is this a new topic? I am just shocked this topic is not covered. It's like bread and butter of financial reporting.

I don't think it really needs to be covered to be honest. It's basically like a bank rec but easier. It's also pretty common sense. If something is missing from one you need to find out if it's a legitimate entry and add it to the one it's missing from if it is or if it's not legitimate (duplicate or whatever) then remove it from the one that has it. It's pretty much basic bookkeeping.

Tim is correct, but if this is not provided in your review course material in order for you to become familiar with what the question is asking and to practice solving it in the allotted time, then this is the critical point. If I did not have my existing real world work experience, I would have struggled with this SIM.

To be successful at these exams isn't whats easily its what we prepared for. These topics on the blueprint should be fully covered by our review software…especially if students are paying 1.5k to 3k for a review course…just saying 🙂

They are covered in the review courses. I didn't look at any of the blueprints and passed all just fine. Looking at the blueprints will not guarantee you a pass. Just learn all of the material jeeeeeeeez
