I am filling the application for the CPA exam right now and I would appreaciate the feedback of any Florida applicants. Where did you guys send the initial application? I have not started studying yet but I have been reading this blog for a few months now just to get a feel for the whole process. I have all the original documents needed and I am ready to start. I am thinking of using Becker but haven’t decided yet. I have been out of school for a very long time and it is like starting from the beggining. Would you suggest Becker or another review course would be more suitable for learning everything from scratch?

Thank you Jeff and thank you everyone for sharing your experiences, your thoughts and frustration:). I was terribly scared from the whole process since english is not my first language, but now I know I am not the first nor will be the last. As long as you start the road, you will reach the destination sooner or later.

Thanks again in advance for your feedback..

CPAB – Thank you for your feedback.. It is very much appreciated. I was a little confused from the application since the application was to be sent to one address and the original transcripts to the Florida Board of Accountancy.

I am thinking of starting with FAR and I think I will give Yeager a try. Which of the other exams would you pair with FAR on the same testing window?

In all honesty, you might as well send your application into a black hole, or flush it down the toilet. The Florida Board of Accountancy is a bad joke. Expect to wait 3 months for them to move on your application. And even then, expect to have to call them constantly for the status.

In short, they suck. They really suck.

Patric 909 – OMG.. that is scary.. It took me a long time to get the courage and start the process. That will really discourage me. I had to go through a lot to get my diploma evaluated and getting the board's response woud motivate me to start studying.. Not sure when to start studying for my FAR which will be my first exam. BTW which review course are you using and how do you like it?

i did not have the same issue in florida – I got approved in about 6 weeks without any calls.

I think you need to evaluate your weak areas. Which areas did you do well in school and like in school or do for a living. For me FAR was the easiest as this is what I do for a lving – Controller. I than rated which section I thought woould would be hardest in order. I thought AUD would be my worst – I like math problems and FAR would the easiest. BEC and REG in the middle.

I took them in this order BEC, FAR, REG and AUD. I would definitely take FAR before REG. Some of the tax questions are based on FAR knowledge that if you are rusty would be helpful to review first. I decided to state with BEC because it was the unknown animal. I had friends who had failed BEC. However I used Yeagar and felt fine and made a 80. The questions were a bit different than practice but felt the home study covered majority of the questions that I was given.

I would say BEC is much more based on study material than the multiple choice questions in the study material. All the other three test – the practice questions are very similiar to the questions on the ezam – in fact some of the practice questions were almost exactly the same as on the test.
