    Hi All,

My first FAR test is in one week. Are the prometrics centers usually warm or should I wear layers. Are we provided with ear plugs?

Can I start on the simulations first or do I have to go in order? Thanks

They're not unusually warm / cold. They have noise cancelling headphones by each computer. You have to go in order – 3 MC testlets, then SIMS.

@yoshie, the centers are usually cold, for me, (I'm always cold) I usually wear a 3/4 or long sleeve light shirt. Be careful, if you wear a sweatshirt into the exam room, you're not allowed to take it off once you start. You will have your MCQ testlets first (3 of them) then the Simulations. You can take breaks in between testlets, but I wouldn't recommend it, you want to use your time wisely. They provide you with those big orange head phones.. I was actually wondering if you could bring your own, but since they're so strict, I doubt it. My biggest advice for FAR is to stay calm, which is something I did not do very well when I took FAR!

ask about the taking a sweatshirt off peanut, I did because I was very worried and my particular center said they found a loophole, if you tie the sweatshirt around your waist, technically you have not “taken it off” and they will allow it. But I am sure not all centers have adopted that particular interpretation of the rules.

My center is always FREEZING. As in I would wear gloves if it were feasible.

I just took my first test (AUD) yesterday. The test center was freezing cold (Tempe, AZ). They are very strict about jackets and if you layer on clothes, they will not allow you to take it off. If you are like me, brain shut down when cold, then you may need to dress warm.

There are head phones to filter out noise. The seats were very comfortable. Great computers. I was pretty impressed. But they are strict. Feels like prison in a resort.

I always wear a sweatshirt that I can easily pull my sleeves up in case I get little too warm. One thing I do recommend is bringing your own soft foam ear plugs. I put mine in and then put on the big headphones provided at the center. It makes a world of a difference for me to not hear the clacking of the angry typer I seem to always get stuck by a cube or 2 down from me.

Kasia you can do that? I considered doing that after my last exam, guy behind me kept making the most god awful groaning noises and the headphones weren't enough.

It's permitted. Also, they may have some ear plugs at the testing center. Yesterday the lady asked if I wanted ear plugs.

@Peanut, how was the AUD? I am taking that next month.

The computer at my center completely suck! I got a laggy computer last time it took upwards of 30-45 seconds to switch between sims. I almost hit the computer..lol
