First Test (FAR) – Practice Test Results

So I’ve been lurking here for a while and I’m about to take my first test in a few days. I took Becker’s Fast Pass which ran from end of May to end of June.

I kept up with the lectures/classes and the homework. My first run through on MC was 55-70% correct, and my second, after reviewing the chapters a second time was ~70%. I gave myself about 13 full days of studying (8hrs+) for final review. This consisted of reviewing the chapters while making flash cards, and re-working MC and SIMS.

I took my first practice test today and was a little disappointed with MC testlets of 70/55/53 and SIMS of 75/60s/60s/50s/30s/20s. I have a few days to put some more time in. I finished the practice test with 1hr+ time left and wasn’t left feeling clueless on any of the questions, but I obviously got a bunch wrong.

What should I expect? Any last minute advice? I started to feel confident at the end of this week, but my results don’t seem promising.

Hey ntr10, this sounds a lot like how I did when I took my practice test for FAR before taking the real thing. I was feeling confident and then took the practice test and got just about the same scores as you did if not worse and pretty much felt like I was doomed to fail. As you can see I ended up passing FAR so you probably should still feel confident but keep on reviewing and doing MC questions until you can't do anymore…then maybe do a couple more HAHA. Also, don't be fooled by the timeframe because I also had about and hour to spare when I finished the practice exam but ran out of time with 1 sim left when I took the real exam. So watch your time when taking the real thing and leave yourself about an hour and a half for sims if you can. Good luck, you got this!!

    FAR - 81
    REG - 75
    AUD - 85
    BEC - 79

Thank goodness it's over... Now on to the next step...

Thanks cpa hopeful, after going through the practice test I feel a little better. I missed on the same topics multiple times and some of the material I haven't looked at in over a week. I made a list of topics to review in detail based on questions I got wrong and I'm going to go from there.

Also I'm confused at how Becker graded my sims. Example: journal entries for exchange of assets with cash received, I debited cash and then the asset received. I got both boxes wrong because the correct answer was asset then cash even though they were still debits and for the correct amounts. Is this how the real test is?

I actually got 70/57/54 on my MC testlets which averages to 60.

CPA Hopeful, you left a SIM blank on the actual FAR exam and still passed? I ask because I'm nervous. I did 6 of the 7 SIMS (4 with near 90%-100% confidence, 1 with about 75% confidence, 1 with about 50% confidence) but 1 of them was just a total sh1t show. I panicked. I didn't leave it blank; I saddled up and did my best but I was very unfamilar with the topic and it would be a miracle if I got any points! So if you left 1 blank and still passed, I'd feel much better! 🙂

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

Yes Mrs 300, left the last sim blank as I ran out of time and believe me, as I walked out of Prometric that day I thought to myself that if I got a 73 or 74 it would be because of my poor time management. Thankfully I still passed as I did well enough on the MC and other sims. So you should definitely feel good about your chances and hopefully you got at least that 75 you need as I see this is your last one. Good luck!!

    FAR - 81
    REG - 75
    AUD - 85
    BEC - 79

Thank goodness it's over... Now on to the next step...

Can anyone let me know how they did on the 2nd FAR Becker practice test and how it was compared to the actual exam? Would be very much appreciated, thanks!

So I took the second practice test and got 70s on the MC and an average of 73 on sims and feel better. Tomorrow is the last day for studying. Im planning to write down the topics from the questions I got wrong and study those. Any last tips are helpful!

I felt that I should update this thread now that I've received my results. I passed with an 81. I didn't think the test was that bad. I had just enough time and nothing was completely new or confusing to me. Thanks for reading.
