Quick question — when you do MCQs the first time around do you use your notes and text book to figure out the answer or do you just do them all without any help? I am just trying to see what has worked best for those who have passed FAR on their first try.

My review for AUD and FAR consisted of me doing the lectures (via a live course at my college), re-writing my own outline of each chapter, and then do the MCQs after I finish writing each chapter.

Basically I will just write out the first chapter, read it over really quickly, then do all the MCQs for that chapter without looking at my notes. If I answer a question and get it wrong, I make sure that either: A) I had the answer in my notes and I just forgot about it or B) Add the info into my notes if it's not there already.

Although I only got a 78 on FAR, I did pass it on my first time (as well as AUD), and I believe I did excellent on the MCQs (as in I think I probably got 90+% correct). My only problem was time management… I only had 60 or so minutes to do all the sims and I basically ended up leaving 2-3 unanswered. I was pretty upset after I left the testing facility knowing that I did so well on the MCQs, but ended up totally failing the sims… Needless to say I was excited when I got my score back.

    AUD - 85
    FAR - 78 (lol@ FAR Sims)
    REG - 85
    BEC - August

Thanks Scruff! I would take a 78 any day! I Iike your approach. I am watching all the lectures first and then I am going to take your approach with the notes for a chapter and then the MCQs. I have two months to study and I really want to make them count so I can pass FAR on my first try.

If you were to do it all over again how long would you have left yourself for the sims?

More like 1.5+ hours. I've said this a few times here, but I don't think its really worth going back to MCQs to try to get the right answer. If you can't get the answer after looking at it for 60-90 seconds, you really just need to put down your best guess and move on. The test isn't about getting a 100%, or a 90% or even an 80%… You just need to get a 75%. With this being said, if you go into the test thinking you need to get every question right, you're probably going to do what I did and waste a huge amount of time ‘reviewing' your answers before you submit each testlet to move onto the next one.

If I could go back to my last two tests, I would have cut out basically all of my MCQ ‘review' time that I put in at the end of each of the first 3 testlets. It would have probably given me an extra 30-40 minutes total to use on the sims, which overall would have increased my score(s) dramatically (at least for FAR!).

    AUD - 85
    FAR - 78 (lol@ FAR Sims)
    REG - 85
