Final week of studying FAR

Well, I am down to my last week of studying for FAR. I took the advice of some veterans, I re-worked all of my material, re-wrote notes, did all the MCQs in Becker and I didn’t cut any corners. As I went through the MCQs, I marked the questions that I didn’t know 100% (and got correct) and also marked the ones that I thought were very important. I went through those too. I worked all of the Becker and a lot of the Wiley SIMS.

I am feeling pretty good. But I still have 6 days left. I did a Becker exam yesterday and did better than I ever have. I plan on working all of the newly released AICPA questions today. But that still leaves me 5 days.

What do you recommend I focus on the last week? I want to avoid over studying but I also don’t want to blow it. I even spent the time to go through the book and write out all of the journal entries. EVERY.SINGLE.ONE in a notebook and I’ve been practicing those too.

    REG - 80 (Becker only)
    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂

    @Mrs. 300

Sounds like you've got it locked down. Does Becker come with any TBS problems? I'd try and work those if you haven't already. Also AICPA questions like you said will help out a lot.

Take a Gleim simulated exam as well. They represented my actual score pretty well.

My rule is not to do any multiple choice questions the two or three days leading up to the exam. I would try and spend a day or two on the tbs's just to get a feel for how they can ask them. I would also go over your notes from the sections you first covered when you started studying. If you haven't looked at F1-3 for a while take a look again. Also go over the harder sections like f2 and 5 and make sure you are somewhat comfortable with them. I'd skim over the mnemonic also.

    hi.

Although I can't offer any advice because I'm preparing for the first section, I wish you the best of luck.

Question: how long did it take you to work through all the Becker problems, write your own notes, etc.? Planning to do FAR review soon and want to get an idea of how long it might take. Thanks.

    Journey begins in July 2012.

    FAR - 87 (8/7/2012)
    REG - 89 (11/19/2012)
    AUD - 95 (1/17/2013)
    BEC - 81 (2/26/2013)

Thanks for replying everyone! I feel like I'm ready to take her down, but I think that FAR has so much information that it's hard to feel truly ready!

@Mr.NiceWatch, it's kind of hard to say. I've tried to track my time but since I study a lot for 20 minutes here and there or an hour here and there, it gets tough. I would say that for the last 4 weeks, I've studied 20-30 hours per week. However, I JUST took FAR at the end of May and I felt pretty prepared (got a 74) so this time through, it took much less time. I think that Jeff suggests 6-7 weeks, studying 20 hours per week. I think that I am on the “slower” side (no pun intended) and it takes me longer to get through questions because I really try to understand them.

Some people say the magic number for FAR is 200 hours. Some people can pass it in under 100. I would say that I'm an average individual when it comes to the CPA exam (see my scores – they are very close) and it would probably take me around 8 weeks to study for FAR.

    BEC - 76 (Becker only)
    AUD - 71, 76 (Becker only)
FAR - 65, 74, 81! (Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Ninja notes & Audio)

    CPA Class of 2012 🙂
