Hi Everyone,

I am giving my CPA for the first time. The exam I have scheduled is the FAR. It is on october 1. I have almost finished reading all the sections and have also been doing homeworks side by side. I am using becker review. To be frank I do nto find any stuff in the becker hard. I can solve almost all the questions in first try. But my problem is, it almost takes me 3 min to solve the problems. And it is a real problem. Should I be really worried about it. How long does it take for you guys to answer a fairly hard question? Is this true for everyone…How would you guys suggest me to spend my rest of 2 months preparing? Should I do the becker question again and agian until I am sure that I know all of them or should I try different question banks instead? I only have 2 final review question in my becker review. Do anyone know where can I get the close final review to see where I stand? Thanks

Well I haven't passed any sections yet so take my advice with a grain of salt – but you need to get the multiple choice questions down to 1.5-2 minutes per question in order to have enough time for simluations. I would do the Becker questions until you feel comfortable and then if you want more practice go with the Wiley test banks. I know there are places online to get more questions too I just don't know the sites off the top of my head. Also, the “final review” questions in Becker you refer to are actually 2 full length practice exams so I would take one when you feel confident with the material and then based on your weaknesses of that one, focus in on those areas and re-study and then take it again a few days before your exam and once again, hit your weak areas. But, like I said I haven't passed yet so…. take that with a grain of salt 🙂

Sounds like your study plan is going very well. To answer your question I would do both – redo the Becker questions to improve your speed and also get another testbank. For BEC – I found that many of the problems took several minutes to work in the beginning but as I repeated them and became more familiar with the problem solving technicques the time to solve them decreased. That will save you valuable time on the actual exam. Builds confidence and endurance too! Also, working another testbank will give you more practice and more opportunities to see many more MCQ.

Often I work thoose questions in Study Mode to get immediate feedback on the answer I selected. Reading the responses for both correct and incorrect answer helps to fine tune your knowledge.

If you are close to having gone through all the material maybe you should take your exam in this testing window at the end of August. That way you can try and get AUD out of the way which is going to be changing a lot too in 2011.

I reviewed for about 2-2.5 weeks for FAR after I got through the material.

Gleim has a testbank that I use – you can go to their website and purchase it online for about $60 – and use it within minutes. Wiley is another testbank that costs about $50 – 60 – but I think that one is sent snail mail. Would imagine both testbanks have simiial or identical questions.

potatogun has a good point – if you are ready for the exam why not take it in Aug and focus on AUD in the Fall? You sound like you are in good shape.

Guys,

Thanks for the suggestion of giving the audit exam. Actually I am planning to give BEC on november. And also I want to pass the FAR the first time so that I do not have to worry about this beast again. I am not in good shape at all. I mean I know the stuff well but still need some time to build up the confidence and pace.
