    Hi all!

I’m sure this has been asked before, but I just wanted everyone’s input since I haven’t been successful with deriving a plan yet. I am starting chapter 9 today and plan on being finished with all of the chapters in about a week from now, which will leave me 2 weeks for a final review before my exam. This is my first exam so I am very nervous and still learning how to handle SO much material at once.

How do you all plan on/or been successful with review for far? Like I said I will have just about 2 weeks (maybe 1.5 weeks…) to review. How to I fit 10 chapters into this? I know a chapter a day would be pointless because then by my test things won’t be fresh. Some questions in particular:

When should I take the practice exam?

Should I focus on questions or reading?

How do I study for sims?

How much detail should I worry about?

Also–I really struggled with chapter 8 so I’m worried to start chapter 9. I’ve read that chapter 9 is an overkill and too much detail. Is that true? Should I not be hung up if I don’t get everything? In most chapters I’ve been doing fairly well–getting high 70’s, 80’s, and on my process test on chapters 1-7 I scored a 90. On chapter 8 hws I was scored in the 60’s on every single one 🙁 This makes me very discouraged. Part of me says I can’t get hung up on it and I need to move on. But then I’m scared if I get a SIM i will lose some major points.

HELP! I’m obviously freaking out and just need some insight and advice from people who have been here before.

With 2 weeks to go, I crammed as many mcqs as I could, took 1 “Practice Exam” per week, with the last one being closer to my exam date (to see where I stood). Tried to do most of the Ninja Sims.

I'd do more mcqs on my weaker areas. Everyday I'd also look through a packet I printed out with all of the journal entries and example applications. On test day I woke up, ate breakfast, fully read over the ninja notes and journal entry packets, then took the test!

Sounds like you already have a good head start by taking progress tests along the way.

I had two weeks exactly for review for FAR as well. I never did any progress tests so when it was time to review, I felt like I didn't remember anything. I tried to review 1 or 2 chapters a day, using Becker final review, and depending how much the topic was sticking. I would take incremental progress tests along the way too. I scored low on a particular chapter, I would take a progress test just on those chapter. I had my FAR exam on a thursday. I took the practice test on a sunday. Scored a 60 average on the MC and started freaking out. took my next exam on Monday and scored a 57 on the MC. Took the day off from work on Tuesday to study and review. Crammed my weak topics on Wednesday. and Thursday took FAR. I would not recommend taking the practice tests so close to each other and so close to the real exam. I was a nervous wreck but luckily for me the MC were a lot easier on the real thing.

Good luck and hope my story helps. I'm not sure anyone really can feel prepared for this exam with the amount of material. Just do all you can do to prepare.

    1. Don't freak out. It's only a test. If you fail, you will still be alive, and on the bright side, your 18 month clock hasn't started.

    2. Don't freak out. Assess your strong areas and weak areas.

    3. Don't freak out. Go through MCQ's like crazy and work on your weak areas.

    4. Don't freak out. MCQ's, MCQ's, MCQ's.

    5. Don't freak out. MCQ's, MCQ's, MCQ's.

    6. Don't freak out. Understand JE's for each topic. You WILL see them on the exam.

    7. Don't freak out. Review NFP and Govt. You will be glad you did after the exam.

    8. Don't freak out. Stay calm and manage your anxiety and stress levels during the test. Watch the time.

    9. Don't freak out. Don't let the “is the testlet getting harder” boogey man into your thoughts while testing.

10.Don't freak out. Really, stay calm, have confidence, you can do this. Keep telling yourself “I can pass!”

Thanks so much everyone! @Pray4theCPA I haven't taken a practice exam yet, but I am SO happy to hear how much better your real exam was than the Becker practice. I can already see myself having a panic attack getting in the 60s just a few days before. Thank you in advance for saving me a mental breakdown 🙂

@Vern -No what I mean so like, should I not freak out? Haha. Thank you for putting that in perspective. I KNOW its just a test. But I am literally putting 7 weeks of my life on hold to study. So I would feel awful if I failed. I think my feeling is if I can't pass it now when I have nothing else going on, how the heck am I EVER going to pass when I have school/work/other stuff. Right now I am just a full time studier (this is the only exam I'll have that opportunity with!)
