Feeling absolutely awful about review. Please help - Page 2

I started the final review face with WTB yesterday. I know I haven’t been going at it long, but right now I have done 124 questions with 72 correct (58%). This is 8% of the material covered. Right now I am feeling absolutely defeated and so sad about the whole situation. I thought I was more prepared than this but I guess not. When I answer a question, I either (a) have no idea what the answer is or (b) think I know what it is, but I’m usually wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My exam is on November 14th and I’m beginning to feel like a complete failure, as if all the time and money I’ve put into this was all in vain.

All help is welcomed. I’m sorry for this sob post, but I just feel so awful, I don’t know what to do.

@scared_cpa I sure hope I do too. I am so tired of studying for FAR. I started studying at the beginning of May for my first attempt and took it on August 27th. I found out I failed on September 8th and continued studying so it's been like 6 months. Ugh I am so tired of this material. I finished the derivatives module and averaged a 65 but Gleim has that outlined in green so I guess that's a good score according to them.

@AScott89 How did you go about restudying? Did you start all over or just review and focus on weak spots or something different?

If I fail this time, my plan is to study all of December since I'm out of class and will have nothing else to do, and take it again at the beginning or middle of January. I don't know the best way to go about restudying, though. What worked for you?

Also…this may be a weird question but I've been wondering. Do the keyboards in Prometric have the numbers by themselves on the right-hand side like most desktop computers do? This is probably funny to ask but I was wondering how easy or difficult it was to type in numbers to the calculator when you're trying to rush.

@scared_cpa Well I just started all over. I'll be honest I just rushed through all the modules the first time. I watched the videos, completed the homework and moved on, even if I didn't understand the module. So I just started all over again this time. I'm trying to understand as much as I can this go around. Honestly I was shocked I made a 55 on my first attempt. I thought for sure I'd scored in the 30's.

I think in Prometric you get a standard keyboard so I would assume you have the numbers by themselves on the right side.

@AScott89 I totally understand. I think I may have rushed through some sections that I shouldn't have, as well. Did you find that going back over it the second time helped it sink in? A lot of people have said that by the time they get to the final review stage, things start to “click.” Well…I'm still waiting on that click!

That's good to know! Little things like that is what I worry about haha.

@scared_cpa Oh yeah things definitely started to ‘click' more the second time around. Although there's still quite a few things that are stumping me. I am not looking forward to the Gov't accounting module.

@AScott89 I'm glad it's starting to click for you! I personally enjoy gov't and NFP, it's one of the areas that seems to come natural to me. Hopefully I can use that to my advantage on the exam next Monday! My biggest problem area is probably relating changes in accounts and their effect on the balance sheet and income statement. I'm not good with financial statements in general.

@scared_cpa I also have problems with relating changes in accounts to the financial statements. My brain just doesn't like to go there sometimes.

I'm glad gov't comes natural to someone! I have a hard time with gov't due to all the funds but NFP is a lot easier.

Any tips for gov't? It would be nice to keep all these funds and their required financial statements straight.

@AScott89 Make a list of the three fund types and the funds within each of those and make sublists for what is contained in each fun and their statements. For example, start with a framework like this:

    https://images.slideplayer.com/23/6611744/slides/slide_8.jpg

Then write the type of accounting the types use (i.e. Gov't – modified accrual, Proprietary & Fiduciary – accrual) and then write what is included in each fund type (what is in enterprise fund, private fund, etc.), and the statements required for each as well as what accounts use expenditures v. expenses, recognize depreciation, etc. Writing it down in a diagram and sorting it out can really help clear any confusion, I think.

@scared_cpa Thanks very much. I think a diagram is just what I need for this.

@AScott89 No problem! Glad I could be of help. Still working problems and not bringing up my percentage at all. I feel like I'm learning but the fact that my score isn't improving is incredibly disheartening.

@scared_cpa Pardon my French but to hell with the score. As long as you're learning something you're good. The score isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. Just keep running those MCQs and learning from the ones you get wrong then you're good.

Now I dont feel so bad trending at 60% on the MCQs.. I copy paste the solution answers/explanations on the MCQs as they are good bullet points.. shorter and more to the point than the Wiley book explanations… I use the Wiley for the material I am struggling with as it is more in depth… FAR test in 3 weeks, my 1st exam too… I dont feel very confident but hopefully that changes in the next 3 weeks….

I have mine in three weeks as well on the 28th @jcman. I'm trending in the 60's as well but I've decided to focus on how good I feel about the material and not on the score.

@AScott89 Thank you! I do agree that my understanding is better but you'd think I'd make progress in my scores, so I don't know. I've literally worried myself sick over this the past couple weeks. Queasy, nauseous…I do fine all day until it's time to study for FAR, then I literally start sweating, shaking, and dry heaving. So much fun…

    @jcman240
Lol, I WISH I was trending in the 60s…still at 58 and 59%. I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't think I've ever heard of someone trending this low and passing. @bucknell39 passed trending 66%, so maybe I can get to that point. Those 7 or 8 percentage points seem so far away, though.

I'm taking @AmorD advice from previous post and only focusing on new questions for now, not worrying about my trending scores anymore…. I am trending in the low 60s so dont feel too bad… I still havent answered 55% of the questions correctly and my test is 3 weeks from today… I'm hoping it all comes together soon… Gov't accounting is my worst subject, i cant seem to grasp it
