    Hi All,

I’m in the process of studying for FAR and I am finding that I am having some issues remembering basic concepts. Can anyone recommend or pass along any suggestions? I’ve thought about purchasing an old intermediate Accounting textbook for a couple bucks just to review but I’m not sure how helpful or time consuming that would be.

    Thanks in advance!

Do you have the NINJA notes? They are great, or if you are more of an audio learner the NINJA audio is great too! Personally I haven't used textbooks for the exam I feel they don't ‘teach to the exam' so they didn't work for me but other people like them.

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

The review course that I utilized (and I'm sure the others do as well) covered most of the topics in enough depth to fare well on the exam; however I do think that a textbook used for an Intermediate Accounting book is helpful when you need clarity of a particular subject. I found myself going referencing mine on numerous occasions. Of course, it depends on what type of learner you are and your approach to the exam. I like to reference back because often for me it is not sufficient to know simply how it is, but I want to know the methodology behind the correct answer as well.

Try a google search. I did that with topics that I had forgotten about (e.g., marketable securities, accrued interest on bonds sold after issue date, lease accounting, etc). Usually the top two results came from clffsnotes.com and principlesofaccounting.com. On some topics my exam review book was a bit condensed but skimming through cliffsnotes and PofA's entries provided a good refresher (plus they had more journal entry coverage on certain topics).
