passthecpaMemberHi,
I would like to take FARE end of january or beg of Feb. I am really scared of FARE because i wasn’t good at intermediate accounting classes in college. can anyone recommend some study material for FARE and give me some tip how to study for it. I just took REG today.

AnonymousInactiveI would recommend Yaeger. I just took FAR today and felt it prepared me well. I have been out of college for over 10 years and out of the accounting world for 7, so I pretty much had to start from scratch with learning this stuff. Yaeger is a teaching course and just assumes you have a basic understanding of accounting. Plus they have great handouts which really help organize some of the trickier material.

passthecpaMemberapbandj,
how long did you study fore FARE and did you only use Yaeger and Wiley? did you do recommended questions only or everything in Wiley? need some study tips and advice as well 🙂
Kasia s,

AnonymousInactive@ passthecpa…
I have been studying for FARE since – gasp – the end of July! Like I said earlier, I have been out of school for a while and a lot of the material was new to me. Also, I have 2 kids so I knew there would be days here and there that I wouldn't be able to study. Plus it is SO.MUCH.MATERIAL!
I used Yaeger Homestudy, Yaeger CRAM, the Wiley book and Wiley online testbank. I did just the recommended questions in the textbook and lots of MCQ's online. Based on what I saw on the exam today, Yaeger prepared me well. Any non-passing score will be completely my fault and not a deficiency on their part. I only had 2 or 3 questions that were out of left field. But Yaeger says they will prepare you to pass the test, not get the highest score, so I expected to see a few questions that I just had to flat out guess on (luckily this didn't happen on the SIMS!).
I was surprised at how detailed the exam was – you can't just have an overview of a subject area. You really have to know it.

PeanutParticipant@passthecpa, I love people like you–Took REG today, and tonight, you're already thinking about the next battle! Good for you. I used Becker. My scores aren't the greatest. I walked out half way during my SIMs my first take, only to find out I was 8 points away from actually passing. My second take, I freaked out during the third testlet and started to guess. But besides my test anxiety issues, Becker covers every single thing you'll see on the exam. If you can't afford Becker, Wiley online test bank is awesome. I bumped my REG score 20 points with Wiley's test bank, and that's what I used second time around with FAR. It's very affordable as well. Good luck to you, I think you will do great in this journey with your dedication!

AnonymousInactive@ peanut – Glad to see I'm not alone in the text anxiety issues. Not sure if you saw my post about taking FAR today, but I was a nervous wreck! Half the battle of passing is being able to handle the psychological demands of the test.

numbercruncherParticipantI actually really like Bisk. It is not talked about on here a lot but I am horrible at studying and it works for me. The video lectures are great b/c they are short and to the point. passed audit on first try just using Bisk and hope that I did for FAR as well but that was a bit harder… 🙂

PeanutParticipant@apbandj, I'll have to go back and read it. Uggh I hate having that anxiety. I KNOW my material when I go into that room. I live and breathe this material, full time! When I see a question on the actual exam, my mind starts going, and I start to second guess and over analyze everytttthing. I always blamed it on being a woman 😛 We tend to over analyze everything in life ha

KasiaSParticipant@passthecpa: Don't fear FAR. It is a lot of material to cover but it is by no means insurmountable. Here is what my study strategy was for all sections:
1. Listen to all lectures & take notes in the books to highlight points of note.
2. Read all study materials and make notecards for the things I don't fully understand or feel I'll forget.
3. Take all related quizzes and make notecards for topics I'm getting wrong.
4. Reread study materials for topics I'm still iffy on and review notecards constantly.
5. Hammer out disgusting amounts of MCQs using Gleim test bank. Make more notecards for topics I'm still messing up on.
Then on the day of the exam, I take an hour before the exam to read through all of my notecards.
I also devoted a full week to just NFP and Governmental accounting and it served me very well when I sat for my exam.
Good luck! Don't let this thing intimidate you.

RedRage00MemberFAR was my first exam. I didn't know what to expect with it being my first exam and hearing how much of a beast it was so I gave myself 8 weeks to study for it. I put in probably 200 or so hours of study time. Some people can pass with less time and others need more time. I wasn't sure what to expect so I gave myself plenty of time. It was probably overkill but I passed!
I used Yaeger. I thought Cindy did an excellent job with FAR.
