Hi everyone. So next Friday is my first attempt at FAR. I am so nervous! I feel like I have forgot everything I have learned and have a couple of lectures left to complete. However, I feel like the lectures aren’t really soaking in – I’m using Becker – and I’m just tired of hearing “highlight this….circle that….” I just don’t feel like I’m absorbing well. So I don’t go into panic mode I thought about doing this up to the day of my exam:

    -Re-read & review notes

-Do all MCQ for each chapter

    -Re-write NINJA notes

(focus on one chapter each day leading up)

I’m just worried that this won’t be enough to review. I legitimately feel like I have forgotten everything I listened to & learned.

Any input/tips would be much appreciate!!!

So your test is the 13th? Have you done any MCQ yet?

I was about to ask the same – After each Chapter you didn't do MC's to reinforce what you learnt?

I would say 30% is reading and watching the lectures. 70% is just doing the MCQ's over and over again until you are blue in the face.

You know what you're weakest at if you're honest with yourself so I would start there. Also, the days leading up to the test I would do a lot of GOV/NFP. It's tested a lot, but the concepts are not terribly difficult. Good Luck!

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

aliciamarie, how do you like FAR compared to Audit?

Instead of rewriting notes, I really would focus on journal entries. I think I said this 15 times already but I found journal entry practice is the key to passing FAR. I know this for a fact after using Becker, Wiley, Ninja, CPAExcel (purchased the software &videos) and taking it 4 times over a 2 year period. It is painful to take a test so many times, and believe me when I say this, I had a big ‘duh!' moment after studying the j/e of each area and seeing the passing score in 2014.

I did a review of j/e for 2 weeks and increased my score with 12 points. All I did was to *understand* j/e concept of bonds, t-bills, consolidations etc. all those topics that I always thought I understood but managed to get confused.

    Good luck!

@howmany74s: seen lots of comments about working journal entries, any topics can you think of besides the ones you mentioned above would be appreciated.

AR, inventory, cash flows of private, NFP, and government companies, MAYBE.

From my three FAR tests, nine out of 10 topics I studied were present. The third time I sat for FAR, I studied this (certain) topic that I've been struggling because I never saw those transactions in my life (not even my wildest imagination could picture), it was not there at all!

My point is, there is no guarantee of any topic that will be there for you and me. However, the most common topics mentioned above and even from (frequently) other threads, will most likely show up in the test.

Good luck to all of us!

I keep seeing advice to focus on J/E's which I'm a bit confused by. when I work MC's in Becker or Ninja…rarely is it a question that asks about an entry….? Is this advice more for sims?

@shanek327, if it is a question that you can answer by posting a j/e, then do so, even if it is an MCQ.

    @Jasminekoko

    Governmental

Treasury bill issuance – 2 methods (keep practicing on buy/sell/buy problems)

    Bonds

    Leases

    Business consolidations

Exchange of like kind property – IFRS vs. GAAP

These are my highlights. Mind you, I gave equal importance to each area as you never know where the questions might come from in the real test. I treated even the easiest question as something I might just as well see on the test and even though I knew the answer, I tried to write down the journal entry as a practice. You have no idea how many times I realized that I just ‘memorized' the correct answer, and even struggled with easy accounting concepts and had to look them up online.

@howmany74: thank you. Yes, I agreeed, I'll give all equal importance regardless.
