LittleMoeMemberExpect to feel totally overwhelmed when you start. The sheer volume of material is insane. But, just dig in and do the work. It seems more manageable after a while. Just don't get discouraged in the beginning. Have a plan and stick to it no matter what. I take FAR on 5/29. I felt totally helpless when I first started. I can't say that I am confident in the material yet but I still have some time for everything to fall into place. And it definitely feels more manageable now than a month ago when I started. Bottom line, don't stress it before you even get started, just get in there and start knocking out whatever piece of your study plan comes first.

SandraMemberI think picking a schedule and sticking to it can be pretty empowering when you are dealing with a huge beast like FAR. I just bought the Roger Review (thanks for the discount code Jeff!!!) and plan on sticking to the 1 month study schedule that is provided. Knowing what I have to get done every day really helps me a lot.
I had, well have, a full Becker review, and may use it to supplement if I don't understand something, but the sheer unorganized volume of it made it feel completely overwhelming.
Obviously the material is the same, so a lot of it is perception. Spend some time simply sorting through it and planning your studies. Anything random or unorganized will feel overwhelming.

littlenumberrobotMemberI am assuming you have the most updated Roger FAR book. Mine is from 2010, plus I have the book updates which look equally long, I have to piece it all together when I study for it over summer! I take FAR 8/25. I am giving myself 8 weeks to prepare.

littlenumberrobotMember@Jeff – I have thought about it. Just not in position to spend money on review materials right now. I have the updates, so I am not studying out of date material.

Mrs 300ParticipantGivemesleep – what has helped me the most is keeping up with old topics. I think what happens to a lot of people with FAR (happened to me the first time) is that they let themselves have so much time to study. So by week 10, you completely forgot everything you learned and hashed out in weeks 1 and weeks 2.
What has helped me the most is making flashcards. When I watch my lectures and then read the chapters again before doing multiple choice questions, I make any necessary flashcards. I have gold ones and orange ones. Orange ones are theory – ones that I can have in the car with me and in my purse or laptop bag and I can go over them whenever I have a minute. Gold ones are actual calculations that I will need a pen and paper to do them (e.g prepare the journal entry for the following scenario…..).
I do them for 1 hour every day. No exceptions. If I work a 12 hour day, and the kids get up early – even when I'm sick. I do 1 hour of flashcards. One of my friends did the same thing w/ MCQ's. She forced herself to do 75 a day NO MATTER WHAT. This 2nd time, it has helped me so much w/ my final review b/c everything has been kept fresh.
I didn't need flashcards for the other parts or any other test in my life. But I just feel like I need them for FAR.
On Monday, I'll let you know how this plan panned out (or after I get my score).

GivemesleepMemberThanks – haven't cracked open FAR yet, still reinforcing BEC. I am getting good at it, just need the luck of the draw. You veterans know what I am talking about. My 6 year old, can recite the flexible budget equation, it's histerical. TC=FC + VC(x). I make my spouse use EOQ for grocery shopping. Help I am obsessed. I fall asleep with the book in my bed. Very romantic….

Mrs 300ParticipantOMG Givemesleep don't do that to your children! I'm just kidding. I was flipping through my FAR book to find something and noticed that my 5 year old circled all of his Kindergarten “sight” words. I was like WTF? What possessed him to even open the book? Oh wait – he was probably wondering what was keeping his mom away from him!
