    Hi everyone,

I read everyone post on a daily basis and see where the forum has helped lots of people. My problem is that i did audit and I failed miserable with a 58% in August. I feel that i failed partly because i did not do FAR first and their was 2 sims that looked like they should be on a FAR test. I decided not to sit this window because of financial constraints and also because I am undecided whether to do FAR next or continue doing AUDIT until I pass. I have the

Wiley Book, test bank and jeff ninja notes and Bisk review for AUDIT but i dont have a review course for FAR for (LECTURES), only the Wiley Book, test bank and Jeff notes.

    1. Has anyone every passed FAR without Lectures?

    2. Should I retake Audit in early January and then do FAR after or continuing studying for FAR and sit for FAR then retake Audit?

Any advise given is greatly appreciated.

I took AUD in July and failed. There was one FAR sim, which wasn't too bad. I took it again this window, and had FAR sim as well. I had no idea how to do it. So many people have passed AUD without FAR, but I'm not sure if I can do it. If you have time, I would take FAR before AUD…but it's really luck. Some people don't even get FAR sims on AUD, and if they do, they still end up passing…it could be a pre test sim and may not count towards your score.

    Either way, Good Luck!

    hopefulcpa28,

I have being reading your post too and i really hope you pass this time. I dont want to fail again (unemployed and all) LOL and waste my money that could be spent taking care of my four kids.

Seriously though, i got comparable in some of the MCQ sections and weaker in sims so i know the sims had a lot to do with it too. J/E was major too. I dont pass any sections yet so i have time, but i feel that my audit knowledge maybe lost if i study FAR first. I am on Module 9 on FAR but i basically only have audit sampling and IT auditing chapters left in the audit book and to do MCQ and review. I think i may just try and prepare for both of them at once and do audit first just to get the additional knowledge and them do FAR and hopefully buy some lectures from a review course in the new year.

    confused and undecided!!!

Aw that's so sweet of you. I hope I do, too…but honestly, that test was hard. I have no idea what to expect. I wouldn't be surprised either way. I'm leaving on a vacation the day after scores come out and I'm not gonna check until I'm back:( I can't imagine another heartbreak…

Studying both at the same time sounds difficult, but not impossible. You can do it!! I've been studying REG, and this time I'm writing notes on everything, pretty much entire book, but it's so worth it. I never did this before (except to certain extent on the last one) and regret it. Just gotta give it all we have and we can get there…hopefully.

Good Luck with everything:) Praying for both of us!!

I took AUD las August and passed with a 79. I got one FAR's SIM and I was like what!?!?. I just rememberred a friend that told not to leave anything in blank, so I guess I got some points on that one. For AUD I used Becker (home study) and Wiley test bank.

As for FAR, I am waiting for scores, but I spent 10 weeks studying. I used Becker, Yaeger CRAM and Wiley testbank. Considering all the material on that test, I think you should get “lecture” unless you are good with books. I found Yaeger CRAM very helpful, but not as a substitue of a full dvd course.

@undeniabletwins2: I would take the $$ hit and invest in a good review course. You will spend infinitely more by trying to prepare and take exams without proper review materials. You can decide what course is good for you, but don't skimp on a course thinking you will save money. You will not. Think of it like this, each exam you have to retake is another $200-300. Plus, if you don't pass, you may have to buy more review materials later. Thus, you spend on that review course anyway and are out $xxx for the sections you have to retake. I know it's tough to make these choices, and I know family always comes first, but if you can even remotely possibly kind of sort of afford it, pay the money for the course. The time (AND $$) you save will make it all the more worthwhile. And if it accelerates your time getting a better paying job sooner, that's even more $$. Think of a review course as an investment rather than an expense.

Full disclosure: I am a full-time student about to graduate, and my parents are well-off. I have no room to complain (and I'm not complaining…) and money really is not a concern of mine, but even for me these courses are expensive.. so I completely understand the desire to save if it seems worthwhile. From my perspective, the most logical choice is to make the investment now if it's at all a possibility for you.

Best of luck to you on your new career. Those twins will surely appreciate your hard work.

FAR is a good one to begin. AUD; however, focuses on vastly different areas so it is possible to pass without taking FAR first. But it does help to have an understanding of how the journal entries should be and an understanding of correcting entries. So without FAR, it's possible.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I did some thinking and soul searching and decided to retake Audit in January 2012 and not in November 2011. I am continung to use the review materials i have now and see what happens. I have over 10 years audit experience work as an Assistant Auditor in Jamaica so i am not new to audit plus i have a MSC in Accounting from UWI in JA and therefore have decided to do some review into my Financial Accounting test re Journal entires and the Wiley book i purchased in very helpful. I purchased Focus Notes, Wiley testbank, Jeff Ninja notes and flashcards and i have Bisk Review course. I intend to study my butt off and take Audit again Mid January. I paid for the test yesterday and is waiting on my NTS. I am going to postpone FAR until i pass audit and can afford to buy a full review course.

Thanks you all god bless and keep studying!!!
