Ok I took FAR today (my first experience with the CPA exam) and I am amazed by all the material that is in the book and the stuff they actually end up testing you on…. I realize they can’t test you on everything just interesting the stuff I got. I couldn’t really tell if the questions were getting harder but that’s probably because I was concentrating so hard on how to do each problem… who knows. The sims… well there were 2 that I was like UH…. but I didn’t leave anything blank, now hopefully the answers I actually put are right 😉

All in all I am just relieved that it is done (at least for now) … time to go eat with my family and take a couple days off before starting my studying for AUD. Here’s to a 75!!!! ….

I'm sure you did great. I was thinking the same thing today when studying some minor problem in that I would probably only be tested on 40% of the topics I study. Glad to hear you finished the SIMS. Do you think you nailed the MCQs? I started a topic earlier regarding the research tab and SIMS. Did you end up using that on your SIMS? Just curious.

I did not feel that my test got harder and I had little to no calculations and I got out alive. You probably passed 🙂

I felt the same way about BEC. Becker had me doing thousands of calculations but when I got the exam, there were very few. I assume it's hit or miss, but wouldn't FAR contain a lot of calculations based on the topics?

@jjm My test is that time as well! Crazy! Yes FAR contains a lot of calculations, at least my section did… but I would guess it's a hit and miss– So make sure you know the concepts as well..not just the JE's!

that is what I thought but nope not mine. I was really really upset! because I studied so hard and felt that the AICPA did not think I was “smart” enough to handle calculations. This was the same for my REG test. Heavy on concepts. I am starting to think that they judge how fast you move to the next question. For me calculations are eeeasssy. So when I get a questions with numbers I breeze through but with concepts I read the question over and over again before I select an answer. They find my weakness and continue to give me questions based on it. HA at least that is my theory.

@gottagetmycpa, me2, kept getting concepts on BEC and FAR, but little calculations. passed FAR, hope we both passed BEC too 🙂

@jjm1181 after the test I was thinking man I wasn't test ONCE on…. “this” and “that” … but of course you don't know what your test is going to contain so it's hard to even know what to study and what to not study… can't wait to hear what you think after your test on Thurs! I'm sure you're going to do great… it was hard to keep my anxiety under control but afterwards I really felt (feel) like a weight is lifted… (at least for now HA!) …. I actually had a little over 2 hours left for SIMS which I'm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing… I did use the research tab for the “authoritative literature” a couple of times as there were two SIMS that I just kept second guessing myself… and still am… Taking your FAR test thursday and then starting to study for AUD Friday?! I don't want to say I “nailed” the mcq's as I'm really not sure what to think right now I did feel “comfortable” (as comfortable as I can…) but there were a couple where I was like WHAT?!

I told myself after the test I'm just not going to think about it if I didn't pass there's nothing I can do about it now… so on to the next one!

@jenuno01 My AUD test is actually schedule for the 29th because the 30th was BOOKED .. imagine that 😉 My test time is actually 8am as that was the only test time left and I'm not sure how I feel about that… I really hope I'm ready by that time! When are you starting your studying?

@gottagetmycpa that's funny! That's almost how I felt today … we will see what happens! Hope I passed 🙂

I took my FAR yesterday, Being very honest i am not able to gauge my performance. But yes, during MCQs i was feeling wow why there is not a lot of calculation? Why AICPA is testing my conceptual understanding? But boy, Sims were terrible i finished all…but they were really hard and i have doubt that i was not at all good on them….

After test it was kind of relief that its done (at least for now) but my mind doesnt control thoughts regarding magic number.

I know 1 thing for sure that my 1st testlet was pretty easy….after that i stopped thinking about that part…and just concentrated on my efforts to nail the next question down….

Will i be able to pass? This is my 1st CPA test….i cant control the anxiety…

@AshleyCap – Sounds like you probably did well on the MCQs. The one thing to remember is that they sprinkle in questions that don't count towards the score and it's possible that the weird questions were those “test” questions. I am feeling much better about the SIMS now that I am going to utilize the research tab. I feel so dumb for not realizing that I should use it. For instance, I was sweating having to prepare a cash flow statement, but I am much more confident know I can just look it up now :). I am definitely looking forward to getting this weight lifted off of me. I'm going to a hockey game right afterwards and I plan on having a few “celebratory” drinks.

With only less than 5 weeks for AUD I definitely need to start right away. I've never had an audit class before so this is all new material. I have a hour plus drive to and from work each day so I listen to lectures so that gives me a head start.

What did you do the morning of the test? Flashcards and Becker Final review book?

@Ashely, I started to study for AUD on Monday. I used the Becker functionality of setting my schedule…so I know exactly what to do and what day… I don't know why I didn't use that for FAR! I feel like it's really helping me keep on track! I just graduated from college last December… so I am hoping I can remember my Audit class! –Plus, I work as an Internal Auditor… which should help! I just finished lecture 1 in AUD and I was sooo happy I took FAR first! They make a lot of references to things covered in FAR like Acctg errors, changes in estimate, changes in acctg principle, prospective vs retrospective changes etc! Good luck on your studying!!

@no_one sounds exactly how I feel too as that was my first cpa exam and I'm not sure what to think… here's to both of us passing!!

@jjm1181 the morning of the exam I ate breakfast looked over my notes for the parts that I was weaker in then went to the prometric site and skimmed over the ninja notes ate a salad and into the test I went…. don't stress too much just do your best and then afterwards move on and have those celebratory drinks !

@jenuno01 I had an AUD class last year wondering how much of it I'm going to be able to remember… I agree I definitely have to start studying asap I just really need a couple days off to get my head together 😉 So Friday it is…. Good to know I'll know SOME of the stuff in AUD from FAR! Good luck to you too!
