I have two questions about FAR…

◆ I know this really depends on each person, but on average, how long does it take for a beginner in accounting to study for FAR? I reserved about 2 months to study (4-5hr everday) and wondering if that’s on-average…

◆ For anyone who have exam experience, any topics in particular that I should focus on (ex. Governmental Accounting, IFRS, etc)? It’d be great if you could name a few.

I’ve been studying FAR since this month, and I have the exam coming up in early January so just wanted some advice.

    Thanks!

Can you elaborate more on what you mean by being a beginner in accounting? How many accounting courses have you taken? Have you learned about defined benefit plans or investment accounting?

Also, how strong is your English? It may take longer for you to get through and understand the material if English isn't your first language.

I think it'll be best for you to look at the table of contents for each chapter and write them all out on a Word Doc. Then skim through each section and then note which sections you've covered already before in school.

Gov, NFP, IRFS yes, but don't spend too much time on IFRS where you end up neglecting GAAP

    Akvod,

Beginner meaning “non-accounting major, no experience studying accounting”. But at this point, I've gone through the lectures of FAR so I'm beginning to get a grasp on JEs, but I still take time trying to understand accounting vocabs and some basic concepts (allowance method, bonds, etc). For accounting credits, I'm currently attending a private business school in Japan that allows me to gain extra credits on accounting.

And I have no problems with English (grew up with American education).
