FAR study tips?

Hey everyone, I’ll be taking FAR some time in early August using Becker. This is the first part I’m taking and honestly, I’m kind of regretting it. I’m not doing very well on the HW (for the most part in the mid 60s – low 70s with some outliers on both ends here and there) and I’m freaking out because it’s 10 chapters and I don’t know how much of this I’ll retain. I’m through F7 and hope to finish the last 3 chapters in the next week or so but I’ve only gone through the required HW once (skipping the optional until the end as a review) and haven’t touched simulations at all (again, want to do that at the end).

I’m trying to budget 17 or 18 days as a review. I know that’s a lot, but I really can’t afford to fail FAR as I will be starting full time in September and could already imagine the nightmare of going through 10 chapters while working. I was planning on going through every single homework question twice for a good chunk of my 17-18 days, leaving a few days to practice all the simulations once while also doing both Final Reviews.

Does that look like a solid plan? Any tip from the vets for a newcomer? Again, open to any tips and suggestions as to how to budget my review time wisely. Thanks in advance

    Peter,

there are several study tactic posts for far, just read a few of them. You sound like you're on the right track….just don't get too caught up with the videos that you don't have enough time to review. At least two weeks to review should be good. Some prefer longer others shorter. Just be comfortable with the materials and do ” a ton” of mcq's. write notes and re-write notes. You'll do fine….but study though :-)) All of us were new at one point, and scared, and still scared…..so jump right in.

    It begins with a 75

Pete I'm on F-5 right now, and my scores are pretty similar to yours. I'm also trying to leave about 3 weeks to review, and I think that's a good plan considering how much material FAR has. I started reviewing old chapters for about 1 hour per day just to help keep things fresh. Pick a random chapter and just do some reading/MCQs. Just something I started doing.

I think your plan is solid though, just keep hitting the books hard everyday.

In the future though, I'd recommend doing all the SIMS/Optional Questions as you go through each chapter. Doing all those SIMS at once might overwhelm you, and some of them take a good bit of time to do. Plus, optional questions are usually harder IMO and that might kill your confidence.

I just took FAR in May and scored a 95 using Becker. Working full time, commute 110 miles round trip and I have a 2 year old. You can do it.

Here is what worked for me. Watched the video, completed all MCQs until I scored 100%(usually 2-3 attempts), worked sims, completed comprehensive quiz. Did that for all 10 sections. Was scoring in the 80s in my quizzes.

Then I did several more comprehensive quizzes and reworked some of the earlier sims. I took my first practice test, scored in the 70s, noted what areas I didn't know very well(government, non monetary exchanges, pensions etc.). Went to those sections. Reached the video, reworked MCQs to 100% and sims. Took second exam, scored in low 80s. I didn't have time to do much after that before my test. I didn't study the day before or the day of my exam. I was surprised by my score.

    Hope this helps.
