FAR study time question

    Hello all,

For those who passed FAR, I need some serious advice about FAR study time. It’s been 20 years since my last Principles class and 15 or so since I last took FAR. Looking at the CPAExcel book, it’s almost overwhelming to think about.

I’m thinking that I will primarily use CPAExcel for FAR and supplement with Wiley test bank questions. I want to make darned sure I pass it this time.

My plan is to begin normal study procedures (up early, study at lunch and after work, study 8-10 hours each weekend) beginning 9/24. This week I will paruse the Ninja notes I purchased for FAR to provide a framework. I’m looking at taking the exam on November 29th. I know already that I will lose one Saturday and an entire weekend in October that cannot be helped. With the lost time that will leave me exactly 9 weeks plus a couple days of PTO I will take immediately before the exam.

What say ye? Too long? Not long enough? Just right? I know that FAR is a huge volume of information.

I think as long as you are learning the material and not just going through the motions, while getting through all the material, and you do a thorough review you should be just fine, nine weeks is plenty at ~20hrs/week. From the time I started studying for FAR to the time I took the test almost 4 months had elapsed because I had surgery in the middle of that time frame. I was really worried I screwed myself by taking to long to study, but I did a good solid review for two weeks leading up to my exam and passed. You will do great just keep your head down plowing through each topic, and it will all come together. Good luck!

    FAR - 81 (8/31/12)
    AUD - 93 (10/19/12)
    BEC - 79 (11/27/12)
    REG - 92 (2/8/13) DONE! All 1st attempt!
