So, I’ve done some searching on the forums here and it seems like there’s a decent number of people who think that 3 months is too long to study for the FAR exam. I scheduled my FAR exam about a month or two ago, for January 19. I used the customized study plan from RogerCPA and picked a 3-month, or 12-week, study plan. I began my study plan two weeks ago. As this will be my first time to sit for any section of the exam, I thought that 3 months would be ideal. I left about two extra weeks after the complete review course to just focus on review of all topics.

I didn’t think about it at the time I scheduled, but I noticed that many on the forum here consider that too long to retain such a vast array of topics. The arguments for this make sense, but I thought that I will just continue to review previous material throughout. The only problem with this is that while it is easy enough now to review previous topics, I can see this being harder as I progress through the course and the previous material becomes more and more, while the newer topics get progressively harder.

Are there any others here that thought that 3 months was an ideal time and who did well on the exam with that much time? Considering that December is a blackout month, I think rescheduling at this point would not be a good idea. Honestly, it seems like everything moves so fast even at this pace. I recently bought the ninja CPA test bank to supplement the RogerCPA course, but other than continually doing MCQ everyday and making sure to review old material (at least to a degree necessary to retain things), I don’t know what else is recommended to stay on top of all topics. I think the extra two weeks before the exam will be very useful to review everything, but after seeing some of the posts on here, I’m now a bit worried that 3 months is too long. I know that things are different for everyone, but there seems to be somewhat of a consensus that about 8 weeks is optimal.
